It's not coincidence that 2016 was when Brees bruised his rotator cuff in a game against the Bucs. That injury on top of his shoulder being rebuilt after the 2005 season, is what was behind the gradual decrease in Drew's arm strength. The decline was subtle on the back end of 2016 & in 2017 but it was there. Lots of fans didn't want to hear the truth but it was real obvious when Brees underthrew Ginn on a deep post in Minneapolis Miracle game. That should have been a TD to Ginn instead the ball was short about 4 yards & ended up being picked off. It happened again the following season on the opening play against the Eagles at home in the playoffs in 2018.

I’ve been saying it for a while now…I really think Winston could have a MVP type of year! He knows Sean isn’t gonna let him keep making mistakes…Maybe I’m wrong but I truly believe he’s gonna make some believers out of some of y’all!

If Sean McVeigh can turn Jared Goff around then the same thing can be done for Winston. Jared Goff looked like a bust before the new coach got there. Next thing you know they were in the Super Bowl (not deserved). Then the Rams were able to get a better QB by trading the qb many thought was gonna be a bust with no value for the organization

WHY does everyone say he a better QB?
Is it because he has a 5000 yd season on his resume?
hmmm....

Three words are the key to Jameis Winston this year:
GREAT OFFENSIVE LINE.
And add 2 more: Thomas and Kamara.

And with our speed (Callaway, Smith, Kevin White), this is perfect for Winston's style...

Don't forget Harris too.

I think the 30-30 is a little overblown also. He was playing for Arians that required him to push the ball down the field the majority of the throws.
Brady had several picks during the first half of the year until he and Arians got on the same page. Under Sean Winston will have the check downs. The runs and the short throws to get to the 3rd and 4 or 3rd and 5.
He will take shots in the flow of the game.

WHY does everyone say he a better QB?
Because Stafford is straight up a better QB than Goff.
The biggest difference is one had a coach spoon feeding him what to do every single play and the other had a revolving door of shite coaches.

There's a stat where every QB that played for Arians in his first year had at or near their career high in picks, dating back to Peyton Manning and every qb since.

People forget that Brees wasn't much better than Winston in terms of td/int ratio 1.51 for Brees at SD. A better team with a better Oline than the TB that Winston played under. Winston was 1.375. Pressing and trying to make things happen, something he has said he now understands he does not have to do.
Only time will tell. I know the TD/INT ratio is not really What poeple use but it is an easy number to look at. In his career Brees was 2.35. Winston will never be brees in terms of accuracy, but I think he can improve a lot of what he has done wrong by being in this type of offense

Jameis is not a game manager, he is a gun slinger. You are not asking him to change his game, just take fewer risks.

Winston had two TD passes with air time of 40 yds

Both of his TDs were a thing of beauty.
By Callaway yes, not necessarily Winston. I don't know if any other WRs on our team complete those two catches outside of Mike Thomas. Good throws, but great catches.

Winston is much farther in his career now than Brees was in SD

It’s so nice to see everybody finely researching for themselves instead of listening the the main stream media spin this kid basically out the league. It’s amazing when they piled on this young man after one awful season with an awful defense and coach.
Kid had 4 coaches on offense in 5 years I think and still put up some big numbers. We got him for nothing and this kid is about to hit his peak. Get ready for his 2nd coming out party.

Look up his criminal record. Amazing stats as well.

I’m not sure how to read this.

Nobody expects him to be Brees
TLDR; besides Winston’s 30 pick season, he averages less picks per year than Drew Brees (minus Drew’s latter years filled with only check downs and 20 yrd back shoulder throws).
That’s the thing. Many people can’t get past the 30 pick season from Jameis. And that’s a ton a picks!
I know it’s really hard to forget about a 30 pick season, even for one second. But if we did… for a second…
In his first 4 seasons and threw 18, 15, 14, and 11. That’s not great, at all! But it’s not nearly world ending.
In his first and only other 4 years he averaged 14.5 picks with a high of 18.
Drew Brees, for instance, before he stopped throwing the ball beyond 20 yards down field, played 15 seasons.
He averaged 14.7 with a high of 22. (Jameis = 14.5; Drew = 14.7)
In Drew’s first 4 years he averaged 13.25 and that includes an anomalous 7 pick season (the only year out of all 15 years that he threw less than 11).
We all agree that Jameis is no Drew Brees who was the most accurate QB ever (except for all those picks), incredibly cerebral, and a hell of a leader.
It always comes back to the 30 pick season with Jameis (which is God awful), who also threw for 5000 yds that same season…Beyond that one exception of a year, drenched in recency bias, he’s thrown less picks per year than Drew Brees, on average (with one of the worst teams in the league, with all of the OC changes, etc.)
Maybe in the next 16 years he’ll play better than the one year we always talk about. Because the point is valid that he’s a pick throwing concern, for now. But he’s done some good stuff too and he looks like he’s getting better, in the limited view we’ve had.
