So, I bought this game on sale a few years ago and never really gave it a chance because other things got in the way. What a mistake. This game is absolutely fantastic. I was up until 4am this morning just questing. Seems I bought the Tameriel Unlimited version that starts you off in Morrowind and ive logged like 30 hrs in this area alone, havent even played the base game yet.
Any of you guys still play this game? Still seems to have quite the following.

Played it for a while but it gets dry after you reach a certain point in the game but i wouldn't worry about that starting off. You'll have a lot to do for a while since you're just starting off.
Not sure if you're into pvp but Cyrodiil has some of the best pvp action in mmos imo.

I'm a big ES fan, but I swore off MMOs years ago. Get thee behind me, Satan

It's probably #3 in terms of popularity for an MMORPG, but it's a distant #3 compared to FFXIV and WoW.
That said, I find ESO to be quite enjoyable as a co-op Elder Scrolls game, but it is a terrible MMORPG.

I haven't played it in a while because I really enjoy the folks I play DCUO with (maybe one day we'll all move to ESO?). There is a metric frickton to do in ESO, especially at the lower-mid levels. When I played it got a bit repetitious once I got to the point where I was mainly working on veteran points.
The PVP is very fun and engaging. It takes a while to build yourself up with gear and strategy but it's worth it if you like PVP.
One of my favorite PVP sessions was accidentally running upon a large group of enemies while I was out exploring on my own. A few saw me in the distance and started coming at me. I was screwed so I decided to at least go out fighting. Before I got to them though (I didn't even have a mount at that time so I was just running) I was suddenly and quickly overtaken and passed by a massive group of allies.
Yeah, it felt exactly like this...

I played it for a good 5+ years. Like others have said the PvP is awesome. I've played lots of MMOs and the PvP and combat system in general was, to me, by far the best. I haven't played in a while but still have my account. I cleared all the PvE content and had BiS gear so all I was doing was PvP before I stopped playing.
Speaking of gear, this game is great in that it is not gear dependent at all. There are many viable sets/combinations that you can use for your playstyle.
I met a lot of awesome people through the game who I am still friends with and we still all hang out on Discord and play other random stuff together all the time. Maybe its because we are all older now, but this is the first time I've actually remained friends that I had known for years through playing an MMO. Except Bard....that bastard bailed on us

I played for several years but finally it just got blah, only had a couple of friends that played and they moved on….

OP not sure what platform you play on but if on PS I can point to a good DC group of people that can show you the ropes if you're interested in PvP. They play in no-cp primarily, unless things have changed, so your lvl doesn't really matter.

Guilty as charged. The game got to the point where it was a chore to log in since I was just doing vet points and some tradeskilling. I didn't log in for about a month and when I did I found I had been booted from the guild AND the Discord channel so I just went ahead and quit the game.
I might start up again someday, we'll see.

Really dumb question, but can I buy this and just play it like Skyrim?

There is a ton of single player content so you can treat it like a normal Elder Scrolls game for many hours. Plus they scaled the levels a couple of years ago so you can pretty much jump into any area and not get massacred.

Nah it's not a dumb question. Game doesn't force you to do instanced pve like dungeons or raids. You can just quest and explore zones in your own little world if you want.

That's not a dumb question at all.
I would put the answer at "a little". While it does have the look and feel of Skyrim and much of the open world content (of which there is a LOOOOOOOT) is fairly level agnostic, you can eventually solo open world dungeons but you won't be one-shotting everything using only Bow and Sneak skills (at least not that I remember, it's been a couple of years).
There are some great quest lines which give a solid Skyrim feel, especially the Sir Cadwell ones (voiced by John Cleese).
The biggest difference is, of course, that it's an MMO thus the world feels more vibrant and alive as you see other players going hither and yon throughout the world.

Lol, all good, yea, some shite went down apparently. You didn't get booted. Rhiannan disbanded the guild and deleted the Discord because of idiots and Lisa being a whore
