AG Landry calls for lawmakers to withhold Saints funding until team changes refund policy

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is displeased with the New Orleans Saints’ policy regarding potential season ticket opt-outs or refunds, and is calling on lawmakers to withhold funding from the Saints and their projects until the guidelines are changed.
The Saints are not offering refunds or opt-outs this year for season-ticket holders who don’t want to attend games at the Caesars Superdome.
Saints fans, and visitors, have to be fully vaccinated or show proof of a recent PCR test with a negative result, to enter the Superdome and Champions Square on game day — which is in accordance with local guidelines set by Mayor LaToya Cantrell last week pertaining to indoor activities.
quote:
Landry, a Republican who has publicly challenged medical advice regarding masks and vaccines, said the Saints' policy was "completely unacceptable! Taxpayers should not continue to fund their projects with policies like this," and then called on Louisiana Treasurer John Schroder and the state's bond commission to "oppose any request for the Dome until these ticket holders are refunded or given ability to opt out."
quote:
The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District — the political arm that manages state-owned venues, like the Superdome, and works with the Saints — has two financial recommendations in for the next bond commission meeting on Thursday, Aug. 19.
It's recommending two cash lines of credit and two noncash lines of credit for outstanding projects. The two cash lines of credit would be $2.8 million for improvements to the Superdome and the other would be $20.1 million for the Bayou Segnette Recreation Complex in Jefferson Parish. The two noncash lines of credit would be $25 million for Superdome improvements and $10 million for the Bayou Segnette facility.

Good. This is what should happen.

This is going to reignite the controversy of whether state funds should be used to subsidize the Saints at all.
There will be plenty of legislators outside of SE Louisiana who will want to use this issue politically. The northern part of the state will certainly have input.
I'm pretty certain Landry is running for governor. This is going to be a small but popular issue that he runs on.

I was always ok with giving the saints tax dollars, but if they want to have a one way street and screw people over then I have no problem with taking those tax dollars back.
Its clear they are losing support big time and just dont want an empty dome that isnt paid for.

I think a lot of people will agree with you. And, I think the further away from New Orleans you travel, the more people will agree with you.

If you are a Saints fan and believe that you don't want to stir up the same arguments in the State Legislature that existed 20 years ago, that's EXACTLY what you are worried about.
This guy may take this issue and run with it. And, in my opinion, it will be very popular. Frankly, it would be very smart politically.

I'm not worried about anything. I'm just saying that Landry is a pandering asshat who's playing to a political base to support his run for governor next round.

You just agreed with me without realizing it.
Maybe it's time to have the argument about whether tax payer money should be used to subsidize the Saints and the Superdome again.

The saints are right why should they refund money to a customer? They have never refunded customers in the past because of health reasons why start now. If a person doesn’t want to get vaccinated fine go get tested before each game. If a fan doesn’t want to get either that’s not the saints fault that’s the fan’s fault. We’ve had local media suggesting this was going to be the plan a couple of months ago, and my rep even told me to expect this when I was renewing.

Landry is the second coming of Punjab Jindal. Con the masses to attain power. He is almost as sad as Rispone.

Why should the fans take the hit? I have had season tickets for almost 20 years, many of those with shitty teams. People supported the team no matter what. But now, the saints just forget all that goodwill and just say good luck selling on the secondary market where most games are already selling under face. Its neither the saints fault or the fans fault, but if a fan wants a refund the saints should give it to them based on the strong support of the fans that have sold out the dome for many many years.
Not to mention the saints kept saying they werent gonna require vaccinations this year. Now they are saying you have to wear masks outside. I mean wtf.
