We should've pulled out, but obviously with a much better plan. The taliban taking over was probably inevitable, but it's really not our job to continue spending trillions on occupying a useless territory.

The rush of civilians to the airport yesterday kinda showed that the average person on the ground around Kabul did not expect the city to fall so quickly. Unless you expect the military to go round up Americans in Kabul and forcefully remove them, not sure what they could have done there exactly.

Think of it as a hurricane evacuation. Those who end up on their roofs had a chance to get out sooner, but waited until it was too late.

When the government is OUTRIGHT TELLING YOU that everything is fine and things will hold up, just shelter in place for now, they fricking own this mess.

State threw these people to the wolves to make sure their own asses got out first.

1. Your expectations for what our government and intelligence services know should far exceed what you expect the average civilian to know.

2. The rush had a lot to do with the sudden and secret evacuation of US troops from the country. The appearance is when the military realized the Taliban was advancing at a much faster pace, they just took off without warning to anyone who probably would have needed to know.

Wave this response off as inevitable all you want, but it's clear your expectations for competency on the part of our government has to be at rock bottom in order to get where you are. Which is pretty unfortunate.
