I will pray for them. They are full of the Holy Spirit. If their earthly time come to and end at the hands of non-believer's.
I hope they are like Stephen.

You realize it was an example because there are Baptists who hate Catholics no? I wasn’t insinuating you personally.

Except the Belief in Jesus and his teachings are 95% of what you hear in Catholic readings and sermons

Not one other being besides the holy trinity is worshipped either. If you think that you’re Wong

Which we both agree is not really the point for you.

I didn’t think that, it’s just that I’ve attended probably half a dozen Baptist churches in my life, and I’ve never heard that sentiment toward Catholics in any of them, by anyone.

I’m Troy, not Wong. (Mobile so I can’t do laughy face)

Don’t Catholics do a lot of praying to Mary, and any number of saints? And don’t they treat the Pope pretty much like God on earth?

Saints and Mary are prayed to. That is true. The thing most don’t understand is that Catholics ask for these to intercede for them. They ask the mother of Jesus and the revered Saints to help them get their pleas to god. Quite different than worship. It is essentially asking someone who did better than you in their earthly life to use that clout to help you achieve the same. To ask Jesus to pay a little extra attention to your pleas. That’s why there are statues and prayers dedicated to certain figures

While it doesn’t make much sense to others Mary and the Saints are considered to be bad asses and you ask them to help you get to the same level by essentiall talking to Jesus and God for you

You’re right, it doesn’t make much sense to me. I was taught that I was talking to God when I pray, and that He was listening.

There’s also a lot of object worship, and really from an outsiders view worship of the church itself, it’s institutions, traditions and dogma. But if you have experience in both churches, you know more about the similarities than I.

That's a terrible situation to be in but it's also the risk one runs when they go into a hotspot like that to do missionary work. I hope and pray they make it out safely but I also hope they put their affairs in order before they left.

Is it really any different than missionaries throughout world history? Imagine being the first missionaries is sub-saharan Africa. Its just a shitty situation all around and still no word from them.

guess the question now is, what happens if many of these people are never heard from again? You know the Taliban will coverup every crime that they commit. Also, this administration has gutted our military/intelligent services to the point that all they have been doing is putting people in charge of things that they are not qualified to understand anything but social engineering IMO.

Even US knows they are murder does it pay to admit it

90% of missionaries just don't want a real job and like living abroad with no accountability. If I was running Kabul Airport I'd have them at the back of the line.

Foo, I always enjoy your posts and perspective.

My concern for these people is did they truly understand the risks? I had a younger female cousin that did missionary work and I can promise you she had no concept that real evil exists like this. Like those girls hiking in Iran that got beheaded.

Some people are too naive to know what they’re getting into.

Either way, I really hope they get out safely.

My wife's Baptist grandmother has been telling them, and now me (undecided on god) and my kids we are going to hell because we are Catholic. We are raising our kids Catholic. I make it known I don't subscribe to any organized religion so she counts me as a heathen too.

Keep telling yourself it's not real.

I have a family ancestor (great great gramps) who was beaten and permanently handicapped along with his field hands on his own property by the KKK - So he moved to Louisiana because there was safety in large Catholic communities down here. They treated Catholics just as bad as blacks. In the name of God no less.

Forgive me if I don't believe southern protestants have the best attitudes towards Catholics.

Maybe anecdotal, but I've been told many similar stories by old Cajun ladies.

What you were doing is known as religion. There are a lot of false prophesies and prophets in organized religion. Many start there(in a “church”) with hope that the Holy Spirit will automatically indwell them and when they don’t feel anything, they exit and call BS.

It was never intended to be that way. Not to say that groups of Christians should not meet and embolden each other’s faith as that is instructed in the Bible. But “The Way” which is what is first referred to in the early Christian movement before the “Church” was established was more genuine to the core of Christianity than what continued to be diluted as centuries passed. I hope you will give it another go at some point, but this time with only you first digging into the scriptures and asking the Holy Spirit for discernment. Followed by a small group of friends who would join you on the path to find the light(truth) and put the true relationship with Christ in your life.

I understand your skepticism as I was once discouraged by the off putting nature of “religion” as well.
