I cannot seem to find any solid information if they grow here or not? Has anyone found any in La?

They had some dried ones at Whole Foods in Lafayette a while back.

I don't trust my identity skills enough for picking mushrooms. It was just something I was taught as a kid and army survival training reinforced.
They say only 10% or so of all the existing species are poisonous, but what are the odds that I won't find 100% of that 10%?

Consensus is pretty much “No”. None recorded.

I don’t think I could ever get enough training to pick and eat wild ones.

Yes, they grow here but they are rare. I know a feller in west fel parish who has some secret spots for them

They do exist in LA but in small numbers and in very isolated locations. If I were going to just look and try and find some, I'd focus on on areas will elevation change, sandier soils, and a creek bed or other nearby water source. That's at least how I've found them in other states.

Yes in North Louisiana I’ve heard people finding them in Kisatchie

I appreciate the responses. I was just curious if they grew here. I always read about people picking them in other states, but you never really hear anything about them in La. I understand they are closely guarded secrets when it comes to location. I need to find some to try out and see if they are worth the hype.

They go for a ton of money here in Missouri if you bring them to the cities. But, as another said, they do correlate to trees and it is often pretty easy to find them along waterways. But really it is easy to find them anywhere in lots of forests (edit, forests up here in Missouri).
If you look at growing them it is insanely hard. They need seemingly perfect conditions to pop, which is why no one grows them commercially. A while back, Michigan State (I believe) was trying to grow them but I don't think it's a thing anymore.

West feliciana parish has them. I've been on property as a guest where the owner found two small ones the day before. She showed them to me so I can verify. That said, I've spent a lot of time looking in various places up here and come up empty. Chanterelles on the other hand...

I’ve too heard of them being found in the Feliciana’s. I’ve yet to find any on my properties. An outdoorsman can confidently identify chanterelles, oysters and morels in Louisiana. I taught myself using online resources. The look a likes are easy to spot…
