Canadian midfielder Quinn made history Friday as the first openly transgender and nonbinary athlete to win an Olympic medal. Canada defeated Sweden 3-2 in penalties to claim gold in the women's soccer final in the Tokyo Olympics.
The team battled from a 1-0 deficit during the game only to tie and later win it all in penalty kicks.
Even before the game, Quinn's appearance in the Tokyo Olympics was historic. They, along with New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard and American skateboarder Alana Smith, were the first openly transgender and nonbinary athletes to compete in the Olympics. Quinn and Smith were the first nonbinary athletes to partake in the Games. Hubbard was the first openly transgender woman to participate. Chelsea Wolfe is a transgender woman who qualified as an alternate for the United States' BMX freestyle team in Tokyo, but did not compete.

So, Quinn was born as a girl, identifies as a man, and plays as a girl? I am totally confused. Perhaps she does not identify as a man, but as neither man or woman. Life was simpler when there were men and women and they each had their own sporting competitions.

It's interesting to see men take spots away from women in women's sports, especially at this level. How many young girls dreamed of playing in the Olympics only to be left off because a boy took that spot?

Quinn is apparently a woman who takes male hormones, which would definitely be an advantage over women who don't take them.
If she is transitioning, then she has to be taking male hormones. If I was a normal woman, I would be pissed off.
If she can take hormones because she is transitioning, then every woman in every sport should claim to be trans and start shooting up.
