A great essay from The Washington Post

Alfonzo Hill watched from inside the house until the landlord walked back to his car. “Yeah, like you need my money,” Hill said after he watched the landlord drive his Mercedes up the block, and then he came outside, lit a cigarette and sat on the porch.

I guess he blew all that America’s Funniest Videos money.

Funny, that's what I think when I see food stamp recipients getting into Mercedes and the like after stocking up.

Remember when Tony Soprano had a property where crackheads were squatting and he had to get rid of them?
Just saying.
Just saying.

Covid checks were suppose to go to rent and the like, if so it shouldn't have touched the hands of individuals renting, owed on electricity/water, etc. until those debts were met.

Glad I sold both my rentals this year.

On another note, if the tenant is bitching about the condition of the apartment, maybe he could PAY THE frickING RENT so that repairs could be completed.
As a general rule, if you have multiple properties which need repairs or upkeep, the guy not paying his rent is dead last on the priority list.

Also this is behind a pay wall so what's the short and little of the article? Let me guess, landlords are money grubbing bastards when the reality is that most of them barely make a profit because they are still pay the mortgage on their rentals.

If I owned a rental property right now with free loaders in it and no way of getting them out, I'd burn it down as soon as they all go somewhere.

First part of the article is about the landlord who scrimped and saved to buy the property, rehab it, then start renting it out.
Second half of the article is about a deadbeat tenant who owes tens of thousands of dollars who lost his food service job when Cuomo outlawed indoor dining.

We finalized the sale of an apartment complex that rented units for &2800 for 2 bedroom and $3500 for a 3 bed/ bath in southern California.
We did have to stroke a check for 3 months of a professional office space back to the tenant because they paid rent and then California said they didn't have to pay. That one we won't sell though.

Very good article, and the use of immigrant landlords is excellent! There are more ghettos being created with each 'moratorium.'

Burning them down is an option I guess. I only have 3 but all the utilities are in my name. If they don’t pay rent I’ll turn that shite off.

Thanks! We were afraid the tenant in the second house we sold was going to try and pull some crap. They didn't want to leave the house but couldn't get approved for a loan to buy. We had to threaten to take them to court to finally get them to move 60 days after their 30 day notice was up. Luckily they didn't fall under the Covid rule. They did leave the house a mess but we were able to get it cleaned up and made a nice profit on it.

They try to make the tenant look like a guy just down on his luck but the details show he is just a piece of shite.
The fact the landlord has to clean up the yard to avoid more fines from the city while this stroke sits inside drinking beer and smoking cigarettes tells it all.

Dude looks like he can afford clothes. He can afford beer and cigarettes.

Sad part is if they don’t pay rent at this time and ac / heater or any number of things go bad you by law still need to repair or they can sue you anyway

But doesn't give one thin dime towards his rent.

I would simply spend another grand have a couple of gangbangers break his arms.

Pretty much what I was thinking.
In the article it mentions a group of landlords talking about one in Albany that entered the home with a gun, tied up the squatters (that's what they are), and hauled them 30 miles away and dumped them in a cemetery.
I'm sure Schenectady has some gangs that would do the work.
