If you are a recruiting buff, what a weekend. I didn’t/ won’t read the entire decommit thread , I tried but some of the lunacy in there would cause brain damage. Where are we though that a thread on a decommit, at a position we are so flush, it’s almost an embarrassment of riches, FYI- Sage Ryan is even better than advertised- if he stays at current position barring injuries that spot is officially locked up for 3 years- think honey badger but faster. Think I am exaggerating ? Let’s talk after UCLA game. Langlois -speed speed speed. Then lowly Derick Davis Jr. - STUD. And the upper classes is littered with potential starters. Anyhow like 240 comments on that. So you would think the news of LSU getting what they absolutely need as a team more than any other positions. A absolute dominating, multi positional , future NFL type lineman, already projected as probable starter his freshman year - has to have 500 + comments right ? Naw around 70. What is wrong with this picture? All we hear every God damn day. Where’s the linemen- well here the the frick he is. And I can guarantee you this kid has more character and humanity life skills than apparently 80% of this board!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to Tiger Nation—Emery Jones
And kudos to the Jones family for a well thought out and decorated Commitment party.
Thank you

OK back to Mathews, believe what you want, but not all decommits are the same. Understanding now what actually happened, I know this sounds like complete cop out, but You and I probably do same in his position. Hear me out-Initial reaction was absolutely shocking to my ears, and nearly everyone else. But after talking with a few friends maybe not so much to Ed. If you guys remember the word I used earlier this week “chaperone”. Maybe, just maybe this old coon-arse was dead on. Hopefully y’all understand what I am saying- with out saying it. A couple facts I can share- communications with staff are continuing and they feel that even after his 5 vacations, uh I mean visits are done. And after all these recruiting “resources “ are used on him and family. He will do what several other blue-chip recruits have done in recent years and re-commit to the team that his heart has never left-LSU

Now onto Boys/Boot. So Aggy has their event, absolutely filthy with Who s Who in 2022 recruits. Don’t get me wrong, their attendance of 5 and high 4 star kids was something never seen before. Is A&M suddenly better than LSU/Bama ???
I think we know the answer to that.
Back to our lowly event which even the majority of my 247 brethren booed and hissed about. So why even have it ?
Well if you think getting confirmation from scrubs like
Wiggins,Tapp,Ausberry and bonding of the cream of the crop of our 2023 class of their current team to commit to I guess maybe not so bad ?
So who had better weekend ?
Aggie with stars galore, everyone who reads or has ears know why. But only 1 commit from a mid 3-star ?
Or LSU -Who got 2 open commits from skyrocketing TE and a bonafide future 3 year starting 4 star O- lineman. While LOCKING IN 3 more high end La. kids? And showing LOVE to most of the 2023 most wanted ?????

Lastly Aggie, I got my return phone call from ex- Bro-in-Law. Professor in Aggieland. His take is they took the news of OU/Tx pretty much as we all saw / heard. Panic has set in. They feel like it is now or never. 1maybe 2 years before big bro. Moves b
ack in permanently. They made collective plan to use ALL their assets to do what they perceive necessary to secure a top class this year.
OK let’s talk SEC etiquette in recruiting, everyone put on your big boy pants and listen. Recruiting is the absolute most back stabbing, name calling, mostly no holds barred, financially exhausting event known to college athletics- hell maybe of any entity. With that said there are certain things not allowed openly by Any team. You can be nieeve but it is on most sites, Twitter - everywhere. What they did crossed the line. I am 100% sure that calls were made, will be maid to and from many universities. We all use different tactics to recruit. I assure you we know what Bama/Georgia/Clemson ect. Uses as they know what we do. I not gonna detail what Aggie did, but I’m sure you saw some of the recruits Instagram/ Tic Toc ect. Yes they crossed the line. They are literally playing with fire.

I know this is to long, most will not read- just trying to share.

I haven’t been on tiger droppings lately but I’m pretty shocked to peak in to our fan base losing their minds over Texas A&M.

Jimbo is and always was a good coach, and he has incredible resources at A&M. You’d have to be a complete fricking moron to not see he was going to make things interesting.

With that said I see no reason to believe LSU is jeopardy of no longer being a top 10 program. We have a huge budget, great facilities, great slush fund and our brand is so much bigger than a lot of our peer’s. People need to take a Xanax

Thanks for providing an update on this weekend. We should rejoice with Emery Jones and Mason Taylor in our class. Hopefully, Jacoby Matthews will reconsider and renew his commitment to the Tigers. Lest close this class with outstanding recruits!

So was this a everybody go to College Station getting paid just to go there regardless if you commit to them or not? If that is the case I don’t blame them hell I would go if that meant free money even if I didn’t sign with them. I saw Shemar Stewart was there. We know what he and his coach was looking for while on their LSU visit.

Haha I love ya Iota and I agree wholeheartedly with your overall point that people are overreacting to the Matthews news, but it cracks me TF up how everyone on our team/current commit list suddenly becomes the best player in the country as soon as someone (who, just a day ago, we liked even better) decommits.

A "bonafide 3 year starter"? Emery Jones? Look, I **really like** emery jones. But he's not a "bonafide 3 year starter". If he was, he'd be a top 10 recruit in the country. He's great, and he plays a position of desperate need, and I'm fricking STOKED that we've got him on board... but he's not the guy you're now making him out to be. If he was the guy you're making him out to be, he'd be the #2 recruit in the country behind Quinn Ewers.

Bottom line: it's okay to be realistic. Emery Jones isn't La'el collins, and that's okay. He can be an awesome player without being a day-one star (by the way - do you even know how insanely rare it is for a kid to be a legitimate OL starter from day 1 for a program like LSU? That shite just doesn't happen).

I'll take my downvotes now

OP is correct. There are unwritten SEC recruiting rules and always have been.

My dad was a recruiter for a rival SEC school in the 80s, and back then they all knew each other. Some are still around.

When schools coaches get desperate, they often break these unwritten rules, and ignore the warnings and then there is almost always some kinda NCAA investigation soon after. It’s almost like the SEC office calls the NCAA itself and turns them in Coaches usually get fired soon there after, because of shitty season and man did they get a lot of shitty calls that year too.

Op is correct, they have been warned. You only get one warning, let’s all hope they ignore it
