Was considering shooting over for a day trip on the long weekend I’ll be in mass for the saints/pats game but upon doing a little research I feel it would be a huge disservice to only go for one day. Now I’m interested in a separate trip for this altogether. Anyone have much experience in this area? (Looking at you AbitaFan08). Would be me , Mrs jkyle, and little jkyle (will be almost 4). What town would you recommend staying in and what family fun things would you recommend to do ? I’m mostly interested in a place with a great view, beach, food, scenery. I think I would try to keep it around a 4-5 day trip.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I’ve also wanted to spend a summertime week or so in Cape Cod and also Martha’s Vineyard.

I did in late June. I was only there a couple of days. Did Provincetown, National Seashore, and Chatham day one. Day two took the early ferry to Nantucket and spent 6 hours there and then took to the ferry to Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard for 2 hours. Then took the ferry back to Hyannis where we stayed. It was short, but a great trip. I liked Nantucket the best. I spent most of my time in town but also took the local transit to the brewery way out in the country.

Me and my family would go every 2-3 years when I was growing up. My grandmother had a vacation house there we would rent out that is now owned by my aunt and uncle.

I was there last summer during my 2.5 week cross country road trip - too bad my only day there it was pouring rain all day. Even my whale watching trip got cancelled so I pretty much just sat in the vacation house all day.

I recommend Brewster or Orleans since its centrally located.

As far as activities I recommend going Whale Watching with Dolphin Fleet in Provincetown assuming they don't shut the place down. If you have kids though I would be careful about Provincetown since its a huge LGBT area - and they are flamboyant about it just in case that's not something you want your kids seeing.

My favorite place to get food is Cooke's, make sure you get whole belly fried clams when you are there. Sir Crickets has a good lobster roll.

Nauset Beach is the go to beach. The water will be cold but its less cold in July/August. Waves can get pretty big at times so be careful.

My uncle would take me fishing in Cape Cod bay. Your kid will probably like collecting hermit crabs in the bay side of the cape as well as the occasional horseshoe crab.

The Cape Cod Potato Chip factory can be a fun tour but it was closed for COVID when I was there last year and would not be surprised if that were still the case.

Overall I would hold off because its looking like Massachusetts will go on another lockdown especially with the Provincetown outbreak. Lots of democrats there. I went here last year on my 17 day, 35 state roadtrip and it was the only state of the 35 where I saw more Biden than Trump signs. There were Biden signs everywhere - because its a haven for Massachusetts/Northeastern wealthy white elitist liberals. This is why I think they end up locking the state down again.

I appreciate the info fellas. I’m actually looking at this for next summer . Most likely would be looking at early/mid June. I plan stuff way ahead I like having my pick of the litter when it comes to vacation rentals.

I've been in mid June before and the water is freezing. If you want to do any swimming in the water you have to go in late July or August unless you can tolerate water temperatures in the upper 50s.

I was with the Governor yesterday and when he was asked point blank if he was considering another lockdown he immediately said “No.”

Yeah I thought that might be an issue. With the little one along for this trip we’d mostly just wade out a little bit here and there. May consider shooting for July but if it’s too late in July that gets tricky with the wife’s schedule.

The more I research the more I think I may want to do a whole week out there. Between Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and all the other cool little towns and beaches I’d like to take it all in. As a runner too I think that’ll be an awesome scene for that as well.

The bay side water is warmer and is better for wading

The ocean side is colder but has much bigger waves and an overall beach like feel to it

Back in late June I was shocked that extremely few were masked. On the Hy-Line ferry to Nantucket, they announced mask were required while all but one crew member (the young bartender, probably 21 years old who wasn’t vaxed) and 99% of the passengers were mask less. Even the stores and restaurants didn’t care.

I’m Hilton diamond so it was the Double Tree in Hyannis for me. Wasn’t looking for anything near the beach as I live not so far from a beach myself. It’s location near the Hyannis ferry was the primary reason for booking it. Plus price was reasonable.

Hyannis appears to be pretty centrally located and convenient to most things. I’ve kinda narrowed my search to the Chatham and Dennis port area. Would really like to be close to some ocean front beaches and not too far from anything.

Stayed at anchor inn in Hyannis and you can go see Kennedy compound
It’s fun going through all the towns
Loved Chatham and the fish pier and Dennis and Yarmouth are both nice especially the Yarmouth boardwalk
We did the cape cod chip factory tour
Not sure what all will be open that weekend though
A lot of places restaurants are summer seasonal only
Have been to both Nantucket has a nice little brewery Cisco brewery and Martha vineyard more to do than Nantucket and a little easier getting around without a rental

Foxborough is pretty close as well
Woods hole is neat area too
Also close to Newport Rhode Island and cliff walk

I much prefer day trip to Maine area kennebunkport kiittery York ogunquit Maine and Portsmouth new hampshire and rock port mass over cape cod

Awesome. Appreciate the info. I’m still all over the place on where I wanna stay. I don’t wanna stay too far inland but I def don’t wanna stay all the way out in Provincetown and be so far away from everything else. The amount of rentals out there is a bit overwhelming. Gonna break Vrbo trying to find the perfect one

We went for a wedding early September years ago. We drove to Provincetown, stopped and visited lighthouses on the way. Provincetown had a tower that we climbed -- Founder's something or other.

Also went to Martha's Vineyard for the day on the boat trip and did the bus tour there. Can't remember the name of it but we went to the Cliffs .. so pretty; think that was part of the bus tour.

Was really nice.

Let me know if you're planning to do the Outer Cape. My parents have a place in Truro, so I am very familiar with Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. Might be biased, but I do think the beaches stretching from Truro to Eastham are best in the Cape.
