Best time of the year coming up fast.
Getting ready to plant my fall food plots and get out my bow for a little sharpening back up.
College football and hunting season. Does it get any better?
Here in Missouri we start Sept. 15th.
Waterfowl late October. How about your states?

LOL, I'll ask my cousin as I hunt his ground (I don't have his kind of money). 450 acres, we shot 17 deer last fall. They were real fat and healthy last year. Was real dry here last fall and our food plots kinda sucked. Hopefully more rain this year.

103 heat index here yesterday. I hid inside all day. I've been out spraying the fields in prep in the heat. Wears an old guy like me out.

Southwest part of the state starts September 18, but most of the state won't open until October 1

I’ll probably shoot my bow a few times the last week of September, get out there Oct 1, sit there drenched in sweat, and wonder WTF I’m doing.

That's the best week of our season...good job. Last week before gun season and rut in full swing.

Don't forget about the mosquitoes...

Yeah that too, although Thermacell has been a game changer.
I still have a hard time adjusting to Mississippi deer hunting. In South AR/North LA, you can catch the start of the Rut during bow season. I’ve learned I don’t have to get too excited early. I would like to stick a buck in velvet though.

Just got back from South Arkansas. Finished spraying roads and food plots. Also took down and moved some lock ons . Have 1 left to hang when i go back next month. The heat was absolutely brutal this weekend.

Started slinging arrows a few weeks ago, soaking wet with sweat dripping in my eyes conditions me for opening morning October 1st in louisiana. Will have several days off the first week of the season to try and get one before the bachelor groups busy up and go nocturnal.

Ours starts Sept 25th in Ohio. I’m looking forward to it.
I put in for a few lotteries here and have scouted out some new public land areas also. I have a few friends that have between 5 and 15 acres in good areas that told me to hunt their land also. I’m pretty excited.
I also changed my setup this year… increased my draw weight to 60# and have new arrows with 650+ grains total weight and FOC of at least 22. We’ll see what the impact of it is.

I switched to a crossbow 2 years ago. It's kinda cheatin but I needed a new bow anyway so since they changed the regulations here I went for it. I tried hunting the opening day 2 years ago on public land. I had been scouting a 25 summer buck herd with three 185 plus studs in it. I lugged my climber and gear a mile and a half back to a spot I picked out in 95 degree heat. If it was not for thermacell I would have been drained by the skeeters. I saw nothing and when I finally got back to the truck I swore I'd never do that again. I wait until October to hunt.

Went to set up some big feeders and clear a few trails through clearcut to bottoms this weekend. Always do this kind of work in late spring/early summer - couldn't because of major surgery to abdomen (cancer) in June. I thought I was going to die it was so hot.
Going to put off major surgeries in the future and make sure to get spring work done on the lease. ;)

Hope you are doing well. Take it easy out there.

Thank you sir! That's good advise.
I've always pushed myself too hard, most of us outdoor types do. I remember when I was young the heat didn't bother me at all, I could work all day in extreme heat.
I'm 65 now and I hate working in the heat. I don't even like to watch other people work in the heat.
