Call small mom and pop shops possibly even ask to leave your number if they get some. Ditch the factory mounts and get the DNZ one piece also.

At minimum take them all the way off and remount them. They will shoot loose if left factory installed

I finished last season with 2 bullets for my whelen. Decided to get into reloading for that reason. I haven’t loaded any yet, but after tomorrow I’ll have everything I need to start loading my own.

DNZ one piece and look for the federal fusions 200g. Best group I could get was from those. Grouped better than barnes 180g.

DNZ one piece rings and Accubond 225 haven’t let me down yet..... stupid accurate

I’ve been looking for a few months with no success myself. Congrats on the new rifle though. The Whelen is a beast.

If you mean that it’s a great game killer you are spot-on,
However, there are a lot of misconceptions about the Whelen. It’s just a necked up 30-06. As such, it has no more powder capacity or power. Recoil is same bullet weight for bullet weight in same weight gun (basically-differences for stock design and recoil pad etc). A 180 gr bullet from the same case with the same powder capacity is the same animal. Where the Whelen shines is in the 225 and 250 gr projectiles. I ve shot the 35 Whelen, the 338-06 , the 375 Whelen and the 400 Whelen. They are all beasts on game. None were recovered from any of the game we shot including the kudu and zebra (700 and 650 lbs respectively).
It will shoot scope mounts loose on crappy mounting systems on light guns so the advice to remount is very sound!

Accidentally down voted , I use my 35 whelen more then my 270 . If you hit a deer with it , its going down . Great gun .

The only reason to use it over any of the other you mentioned is the fact that in louisiana and Mississippi a 35 cal bullet or larger in a single shot breech loading gun is considered “ primitive”

Understood.
I have heard so much BS about how bad it kicks and shoots scopes apart etc that I just wanted to clarify what it really is. As such, it’s a helluva round and very versatile
