You don't call Nick Saban, 'Nick.' Don't call me Deion," Sanders told Nick Suss from the Clarion Ledger.

That’s a bit silly.

And I’m pretty sure some reporters do call him Nick, no?

Isn’t the first name thing a sign of respect? They’re saying you’re legendary enough to be called by your first name and people still know exactly who they’re talking about.

Yes, and Nick doesn't care.

Why tf would they call him anything but Nick?

They're not going to call him Mr. Saban. He's not their coach, so you also wouldn't call him Coach Saban.

So what else would a reporter call Nick Saban, I don't get it.

100% false. He's called Nick in literally every presser and does not care.

Proceeds to reference Nick as Nick. What an idiot.

It is. In the coaching world literally everyone calls everyone else by their first name. Typically, the rule is that you call the coach “Coach ______” when the players are around. The adults call each other by their first name. Deion probably doesn’t know any better because he didn’t join the coaching profession the same way 99.9% of the others did.
