Nebraska uses search firm for new AD, hires Trev Alberts

In 2002, Alberts joined the staff of the American cable television network ESPN, where he worked as an in-studio analyst for college football, ultimately joining Rece Davis and Mark May on the network's College GameDay Scoreboard and College GameDay Final.
On September 6, 2005, Alberts was terminated by ESPN for breaching his contract when he declined to report to work; Alberts later claimed he did not want to "play second fiddle" to the more prominent cast of College GameDay, Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso.

Alberts was hired in April 2009 to be the director of athletics for the Nebraska–Omaha Mavericks sports program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Alberts made the controversial decision to eliminate football and wrestling in an effort to bring University of Nebraska-Omaha to Division I's Summit League. The regents approved the move March 25, 2011.

This guy seems like a REAL jackass. How the hell does he land a spot like that. Man Nebraska has REALLY fallen off a cliff. I wouldn't be surprised that after the backlash he doesn't end up the AD for Nebraska.

I understand his background from playing at Nebraska but otherwise this makes no sense

when he got shitcanned by ESPN I remember someone at GameDay had a sign that said simply "now back to Trev in the studio"

Was it Alberts that called Ole Miss "runts"?

It was alberts that talked all kinds of shite about LSU in the 2003 season.

There’s a reason they haven’t been relevant for 2 decades

Ya the famous "Georgia was the better team then(first game), and they're the better team now (champ game)."
Whoops

Today I learned that Trev Alberts has been the AD at Nebraska-Omaha since 2009. Wonder how he parlayed a career that only included playing football and talking about football as an analyst into athletic administration and straight to the top as an AD at that

Well, he has more experience than I was expecting

Bring in a former player as AD to help smooth over the need to fire a former player and hire a new football coach?

The ending of the UNO wrestling team was a travesty. The team had won the National championship 6 out the previous 8 years. The team was not losing money and had the support of the community.
He also disbanded the football team.

I remember when he was the Rant's most hated talking head.

Hate Trev, but his shining moment was in 2003 when he said "Ole Miss will always be the runts of the SEC" after we beat their best team in decades

Nebraska taking the USC hiring approach is a bold strategy.
