They are protecting democracy by rigging elections. I am surprised you can't understand how that is fair and just and equitable. If you restrict voters to being actual persons and only voting once you probably supported slavery and are a racist. Even if you just take it in good faith and say they won’t cheat, they don’t want it because it makes it less likely their base will actually vote
