I went online because my internet only (fiber gigablast) promotion plan expired and increased by $50. I went online and there was a promotion to lock in 24 months again for $29 less a month. For some reason it wanted me to schedule an installation I didn’t need. Hit the chat button. Was given number to loyalty dept. the guy checked and got me a $50 per month reduction (back to original price for the next 24 months).

Kudos because you had to call and ask them not to frick you for no reason?

I see your point. But am choosing to accentuate the fact the guy could have locked me in for $29 off and I’d have been happy. He gave me the better deal. Credit where credit is due.

Because the contract he signed agreeing to terms which were agreeable to him was expiring and he was able to lock in another 2yr contract at more terms that are agreeable to him. I get your tears over Cox and agree with your points, but If you live in a lot of BR or other area where they are the only choice for over 25Mbps you have to celebrate the small victories.

I get it, I'm happy for OP. But Cox has flat out lied to me on multiple occasions, and like AT&T they give way better deals to new customers than they do to customers of 10+ years.

No way am I going to give them a pat on the back for having to speak to the "loyalty dept" just to get a rate reasonably in line with what you would get in a competitive market.

That's fair, but it is what it is. You can be proactive and move to a competitive market, or start your own ISP, or hound your representatives and demand change, or accept what internet cost where you live and appreciate the other benefits of living there. I support whatever you choose, but please spare us your anecdotal story about how Cox touched you where your bathing suit covers every time someone mentions them, we get it and we're sorry that happened to you.

Can you provide some info on the $29.00/month special?

I'm paying $99.00 per month for gigablast in Baton Rouge.

I don't get posts like this. Well, if you don't like people discussing negatives about cable companies, you can be proactive and move to a different message board or start your own. I support whatever you choose, but please spare us your rant about markets every time someone trashes the cable company. We're sorry you don't like it.

What if I choose to play the role in the market where former customers share their experience? Aren't communication, reviews, etc part of the free market?

I already voted with my wallet and left them.

I could be proactive and move to a competitive market, but I'd rather improve my own community when possible.

I could start my own ISP, but it's likely that cox has the bank to just undercut me until I can't do it anymore, then go back to business as usual.

I could hound my representatives and demand ch.. pahahahaha sorry I couldn't finish that one.

And no, I won't just accept what internet costs, because look at just what we have in this thread. OP is paying $80, he could have been paying $130, and someone else is paying $100... all for the same exact service.

So I choose to let others in my community know when they're getting screwed by cox and others. If we all just let them get away with padding their pockets, that gives them more of a cushion to stamp out competitors in the future via undercutting or buyout.

That's fine, it's just a pretty shallow effort.

Well, we can't all move or start our own ISP, and being fair, you've put about the same effort in being counterproductively argumentative, so...

I'm not putting in any effort, I'm just calling a spade a spade. Kork came in bashing the OPs thread on the basis Cox charges customers inconsistently and is doing his part by spreading the good word against Cox. And at the end of the day his big frick you to Cox was switching to another ISP with the same price practices. I get it he doesn't like Cox and that's fine, but don't come around with this low effort BS anytime someone mentions Cox like your not supporting the BS ISP market like everyone else. The OP got a good deal from Cox, let him relish in it and let him thank the random support guy who helped him out. I think everyone still agrees we would prefer cheaper internet and no data caps.

Anything short of uprooting my life or attempting to compete with a multi billion dollar company is a shallow effort? And you and I both know a single post here makes more of an impact than a call to my reps.

How do you characterize what I'm doing?

Where do you suggest I put my on-topic counterpoints to a thread?

My ISP charges me to the penny exactly the price that they advertise. If there are any fees or taxes, it's all included in the advertised price. They haven't bumped my rate after 4 or 5 years. They did change their plan structure during that time, and they switched me to their faster plan at the same price without me having to call.

In contrast, I had cox tv+internet for maybe 10 years, and by the end of it I was paying double what I did from the start. And like everyone else, I had to watch my bills and call in every year or two to keep it reasonably under control. It got to where as soon as someone answered I would say "send me to retentions" (I guess they renamed that department to "loyalty" now). So then we cut the cord and I dropped it down to internet-only, and I knew I would be paying more than the advertised price from the get-go. I asked exactly how much I would be paying each month, taxes and fees included. I was told a number roughly $10 higher than the advertised rate, and that was still acceptable so I agreed. I checked my statement a couple months later and they were charging me nearly $20 more than what they told me. They aren't honest and upfront about anything. They just charge whatever they want to charge and hope you don't notice. If you do notice, then they appease you with another "promotion" that makes the price somewhat agreeable. And then you have to look forward to another haggling session. Be sure to mark your calendar.

I support honest businesses and good customer service. I call out dishonest businesses and poor customer service.

And when I'm in the market for something or exploring new options, I want to hear the negatives as much as, if not more than, I want to hear the positives. Maybe it's just me.

Damn. I pay $50 for gig fiber from att. It's been 9 months and I haven't had any trouble whatsoever luckily, haven't had to deal with ATTs shite customer service.
