Not looking super likely, but it seems all but certain that he’s gone. Totally understandable given his injuries.

Maybe he has some agreement to sign under slot or something. Otherwise I doubt it.

He wouldn’t play next year. If he decided not to sign, it still wouldn’t help LSU.

He will be out all next year because of Tommy John surgery.

Thx, I knew he had TJ surgery, but thought he might return at some point next year.

ETA: a 9 month recovery for TJ surgery is not unheard of, not sure why you have him out all season. whether it’s the MLB or LSU, he should be able to return to pitching in the Spring.

He should be able to come back and play next year, if he were to come back. It was early enough in the season to where he could get surgery right away, and the start recovery

9 month recovery for TJ is unheard of, and if attempted would be a dumb move, especially with someone who has the future of Hill.

Kevin Goldstein, Fangraphs writer and former Astros executive, tweeted about an hour ago about Hill, “ I haven't once heard of him going today -- might just go back to school”

He would at best be able to pitch halfway through the conference schedule next year. With the typical struggles immediately following TJ surgery I’m, selfishly, not sure that we should really want him back.

He’s a great kid and he seems to be a great teammate but I think it’s best for both parties for him to go into his pro career.

A 9 month recovery is exceedingly rare. Not to mention that pitchers are usually not their former selves until 2 years post op. Even if Hill came back to school he would at best be a late season limited use bullpen arm and likely not an extraordinarily effective one.

It's not "exceedingly rare", but even at 10 or 11 months, he should be back to throwing in some capacity. The point is, he's not done for the 2022 season as was suggested.

He hasn't been able to stay healthy. Frankly, I don't think he is worth a roster spot at this point. He likely won't pitch at all next season, then he certainly would be gone the next year.

I understand Hill has outstanding potential, but as as you indicate and most everyone here knows all too well, has been unable to stay healthy, suffering early season arm injuries twice at LSU.

I question whether drafting him is a wise choice for any major league team, based on recent history.

But since so many draft picks never make it to the major leagues, I suppose it is worth a gamble for some team.
