Sounds like the dude deserved it to me. Talk shite enough to someone who repeatedly asks you to stop, you're earning a punch to the face. That's the man code there.

But physically assaulting someone because of something they said is still a crime. At least it used to be. I guess they have certain “exceptions” now.

Yep...and then they should charge the guy that hit him with assault and battery. Actually, they should have charged him when it happened. Someone saying things you don't like doesn't give you the right to punch them, regardless of how much they deserve it.
