Didn’t realize minor leaguers make $10,000 to $15,000 a year. That is ridiculous.

If they get paid that little as professionals, what makes you think they’ll have the following to get more than that as college kids.

An education is worth more than that

If the Dylan Crews’ of the world are supposed to choose the draft and they decide to come to a place like LSU, you better believe local and some national brands will come looking

I’m pretty sure that LSU has a bigger fan base than just about every minor league team in the country.

15k a year? No way man. Not for a while. Guys in rookie and A ball make about 1200 a month just for the season, and have to pay rent, pay for food, clubhouse dues, laundry fees for their uniforms. It’s silly.

And they don’t get paid for the month they spend in spring training

National brands don't give a shite about college baseball and whatever amount you'd make in NIL money over a minor leaguers salary will probably not come close to the amount you'd lose in signing bonus leverage.

LSU baseball players will have no problem getting sponsors. A lot of schools will, but not LSU. We have a massive following.

I would call Walk Ons and Marucci national brands. they might have formed in Louisiana but they have a good reach around the country.

I’m not saying the list of national brands is expansive either. Few and far between

You're certainly going to get more eyeballs on you as a stud in ncaa vs minor league ball, although you aren't getting called up to the MLB in the near future,

But you also have to think about the difference in sign on bonuses and contracts kids get when they’re juniors vs seniors, so you can be penalized for staying in school too

Maybe it can help in keeping a draft eligible sophomore around, but not sure it helps a junior in the grand scheme of things

Players who get called up usually spend less time in the minors if they went to college first.

It’s roughly the same amount of time but do you want to spend that time traveling by bus and sharing a two bedroom apartment with 6 dudes and eating top ramen or do you want to spend 3 of those years getting top notch nutritional care while being the big man on campus and playing in front of 10,000 people.

I know what I’m choosing. Barring life changing money in the first round college ball is a much better gig.

I don’t know that it’ll help in keeping kids at school. I think the value comes in getting them to school in the first place.

For most players leaving after junior year, their signing bonus is way more than NIL money. Crews will most likely get 15-20 mil after his junior year

Fair point. I’m sure it could help with some of the borderline kids, but at the same time I could see some still biting on the 500k signing bonus straight out vs having to sit in class and hope to make that in royalties over 2/3 years

Its like that at like 6-8 places.
