This happens every day, especially in 2021

My wife works in elementary education and had to hire a new teacher last year. She interviewed three candidates and one was head and shoulders better than the others but she was white. The weakest candidate was black and my wife was told she needed to hire the black girl to boost their numbers

Yup, pretty standard especially for large companies.

Most major O&G companies and large service companies don't even pretend to hide it anymore.

That's okay. Your wife is building a good retirement as a teacher.

Hiring shitty candidates to meet diversity numbers is an easy way to end up having to hire new people soon.

Either the poorly performing minority candidates get fired and sue or your good employees get sick of the shite and leave, meaning you have more spots to fill either way.
