Can't wear watches while playing soccer. I assume that's the same for football and basketball.

These are doing the same thing but without adding much to what the players wear. I agree, it looks gay though.

Even for something as simple as heart rate monitoring simple chest straps are much more accurate due to the way they gather the data. These sorts of multi-metric sports trackers allow for real-time data collection during practice and games and will be coming to a sport near you in the not very distant future. They can quantify fatigue and overheating for example. You know how that left tackle always says he is good to go well now someone is able to track his body just like the pitwall in F1 can monitor things like fuel and oil pressure in the car in real-time. When the data wonk sees the lineman is redlining he can let the coach know and the coach can sub in a fresher player.

From a fan perspective, there will at some point be data shared with broadcasters. That cut the WR made that broke the CB's ankles can actually be quantified.

less accurate and you cant wear watches while playing, injury risk for you and others.
