Has anyone ever been treated by a traiteur, also known as a Cajun healer?

Faith based healing tradition in the South. I’m curious if there are any stories of people on here being treated by them.

Old man in the neighborhood, PawPaw Triche, removed my warts with a piece of string back in the seventies. Had them for years. He tied knots over the warts while mumbling in French. Then told me to bury the string and the warts would disappear when the string rotted. Warts were gone in under a week.

My grandfather was a healer. Saw a few healing in my family. My dad told me of many people over the years coming to be healed. Snake bites, warts and various other chronic ailments. He passed it to one of my uncles but he died at a young age.

Got treated for asthma, a badly sprained ankle and a burn on my leg that didn't want to heal. All I remember each time going late a night to a old black lady that put me leaning against a tree touching my head and body while speaking dirty French.

When I went to MEPs in NO one of the counselors asked if I ever had asthma and I told him I did as a kid until I got treated. The guy looked at me like I was crazy but he didn't ask anymore questions.

People go to these quacks, yet they can’t get a simple little injection.

My dad did some traiteur "treatments" when I was a kid near Lafayette. Don't think he was considered a full blown traiteur though. Seems he helped a bunch of people with things like "sun stroke." They had headaches. Seems as I recall traireurs could treat certain things, and the "Gift" to become a traiteur could only be had from another traiteur.

My dad said when he was a kid back in the 50s one of his rabbit dogs had become sick and wouldn’t eat or move around for about three days. They loaded it up in my Papa’s truck and took it to an old man a few miles away that was a healer. Dad said within 15 minutes of them getting home the dog was running around the pen and eating like nothing had happened.

Had 13 warts as a kid. Saw an elderly lady down the street. She tied 13 knots in a string and told me to bury it under my front steps. She said as I walked up and down the steps it would wear the warts down. You cant thank them or it doesn’t work. Sure enuff, they went away.

My grandma. Treated a few ear aches when I was young. Like another poster said, couldn't thank them. I'm fairly agnostic now-a-days, but it used to work on me

Said it only worked if you believe. Maybe it's a mental thing.
