Went down a YouTube rabbit hole of baws buying 16’and smaller boats and decking them over and rigging out to look like a bass rig..

You mean like a modern day Cajun Special? My grandpa did that to a aluminum boat many, many years ago.
personally, if a 16ft boat is what you got to bring, bring it but it doesn't make sense to load it out. Save some more, sell the 16ft and bring cash to get a bigger boat. Wash, rinse, repeat. Boats in good condition bring good money, but accessories bring almost nothing to the sale.

I actually went down the same rabbit hole earlier. It’s cool if that’s your thing.

Looks like it would be easy enough to do if you wanted to.. most of those guys do no welding and everything is riveted together.. if I run across the right deal I may scoop something up and give it a try

I wouldn’t mind having a little 1436 for running creeks, marsh, and some duck hunting spots.

Some of them look pretty cool. I saw one with a black and yellow camp decking (hydroturf) that was nice...

I had a 12' Ouachita with a front deck for casting with a 25 hp mercury 2 stroke and a Lowrance depth finder. I was the shite in that boat. Bought it for $300 and sold it for almost 2 grand 5 years later.
I fished grand isle, Venice, cocodrie and dulac, Ramah and Henderson, bayou Manchac and Amite, homochitto river, choctawhatchee Bay, went through the pass in Destin by crab Island...I fished all over in that little boat.. Already starting to miss it

Did you sell it to Das Boat, Season 3?

My first boat was a tracker with old mercury in the 1980’s. Only difference was tracker built the boat not me.
Cajun special sold a ton of those 14ft boats with 30hp Johnson and then switched them to Yamaha. I bought a used one from a guy garage kept $2k and bought a push pole. That was a great boat for the Florida Keys. Came home sold it for $2,700 in two days.
Louisiana Traveler’s we’re around for years. You bought the boat and fixed it up how every you wanted it to fit your needs.
I own a 15ft Alweld with a 25 tohatsu. Great on gas and use it more than my Vexus on Toledo Bend, marsh, spillway, and HP restricted waters such as Laccasine if I am by myself.
I caught 7 bass over 10 lbs on Toledo Bend since 2003. All caught in 16ft or less boats.
If you combined all 7 bass fishing trips probably burnt less than 6 gallons of gas where I went.
Fish do not care if you have a fancy bass boat or a kayak.
Now fishing a tournament and graphing spots before you fish or covering large amounts of water larger boats are nice. Just not necessary to catch fish.

Thinking imma pull the trigger on a project.... going get the boat today, then gonna order some 1/16 and 1/8” aluminum plate and angle....

My advice as I have done a few some welded some using rivets. Plan your project out and price it out, so you can make changes before spending the money on supplies.

To be honest if you are a basin fisherman 16' boat is really all you need and actually better than a larger boat on some occasions.

I have a 1436 and it fills up with gear QUICK. Once I have my stand, bow, ice chest, deer/pig there isn't room to breath in it. I'll be upgrading soon.

There is a group on here with genues (I botched the spelling). It is a hybrid canoe with a motor.

Gheenoes!
And no I sold it to a mulatto lesbian in lake charles right before the hurricanes hit last year. I called her dude 3 times before I realized she was not in fact a dude. Probably made her year

I love my 16ft aluminum boat. I've posted pics multiple times on here of it. It has a decent sized front deck, and the back bench is wide enough to fish from as well. I think some of those tiny boat builds are really cool. however, I do not have the time or energy to do anymore to mine than what has already been done. I fish very comfortably in it, and it can go into almost any bayou around, and shallow marshes as well.

Got an old arse 1442 Duracraft w/ new 20hp Suzuki. Damn fine set up for ducks and fishing. Does fill up with gear quickly and not an all-day fishing boat, but perfect for a few hours around some oxbows. So easy to transport and throw off in a bar pit or canal. Dont really want anything bigger right now.

Spent a lot of years fishing Henderson and similar areas in a 16 aluminum decked for bass fishing (was a shop made boat I bought second hand).
Was a tiller steer with a deck in back and front. Not as well laid out as below but similar in size. Front and back deck were not as long.

Got the boat, 16 aluminum simi-v hull with a 2017 40hp 4-stroke mercury. Gonna fish a few times before I start the “build”..
On a 16’ side console boat, how far should the console be up from the stern of the boat??

Alweld 1444FV owner w/ 25 Yamaha. Works great for hunting as its easy to conceal, much more so than folks with the 16' plus boats. Haven't done a ton of fishing in it yet but I think it would do fine for just two people.
Built out a nice storage box / seat on the side with aluminum angle and rivets. Was a fun project.
