When I checked into the Beach Club on Saturday the check in girl (no pics, you don’t want them anyway) gave me a sheet with all the definitions. She told me to study it because they’ve had issues recently. She wasn’t exaggerating.

Any responsible man should make sure that any of his family has a floatation device whether it be a boogie board of a circle float attached securely around his kids (teens also) wrist when entering the water. They should also instruct them how not to panic and just ride it out in the float until picked up. Assure them that help will arrive and just chill on the float.

But I mean how much of a moron do you have to be to not know red means stop and green means go.
I mean……have you taken a look around the country lately?
The magnet is a good idea.

And red doesn't mean stop, double red does

That’s true. People are just dumb around and in water. Not the beach, but at the lake yesterday we pulled a woman out after she got caught in a storm in her kayak without a PFD and was clinging to her sinking kayak.

Yup - double means the beach is closed, one red flag is high hazard
Which means people will go in bc it’s not double, or don’t know red means stop or at least be aware

Even if you knew what to do, it’d be hard not to panic when you’re in a stream of current that may take you several hundred feet offshore. It’s best to keep several boogie boards nearby: one for you and one for the person you want to rescue.

So much data is available there is no excuse of getting caught in the current. You can know wave height, interval, wind speed, water temp, tides, have twice a day satellite pictures in detail of the beach to look and see if there are rip currents in the water.
We don't need more life guards, people just need to do a little research and look after themselves and their loved ones.
I am taking the family out tomorrow, I know the wind will be moderate 7-9mph were we are going but the waves are forecast to be 0-.3ft high with no wave period listed because there will be virtually no waves. I also know this can change in a second. This is in a boat, but safety is the same and the information is out there.

When you start to be pulled out to sea your first instinct is to panic and you get worn out trying to swim out of it. That’s when it gets you.

These have to be the deadliest beach’s on the freaking planet.
Easy there. A lot of places on the Pacific will suck you a mile out if you stick your big toe in the water

4 or 5 people didn’t die along any 30 miles stretch of beach in South Africa this week.
The typical pattern is parents get distracted etc and little Johnny gets caught in rip tide on raft or something and starts screaming as he is getting ripped out to sea. Parents panic go after him, parent drowns. Johnny gets picked up by boat or something or he drowns too.
I think I t’s the damn near constant 10-15 knot winds we are getting. We typically get a day or two break as fronts move in but not lately, the 10-15 knot days have been the light wind days lately. It’s like March April weather right now. Water just hit 80 degrees most places last week or so.
It’s just really bizarre and dangerous rn.
No 1: Dont Panic.
No 2: next you never fight a rip tide you swim with it at an angle until you get out.
No 3: Tell your kids to always stay with the raft or float. They will be fine if they do. Any boat within a few miles here will respond to a call to rescue a kid, and you are not going to have miles of empty gulf in the Summer. They can be 20 miles offshore, we will find them and get him. Plus the Coast Guard will stop their card game and send in the chopper to rescue a little kid, you or me not so much.
No. 4: Don’t Panic.

To be totally frank, our beaches just aren’t safe right now. So be very very careful. I would love a week of news cast without dead vacationers but haven’t had one yet

I know this is a serious topic but this made me chuckle. Yes, your child dying really would put a damper on things.

I didn't know the OT had so many beach Karens

Every thread TutHillTuger makes is about how if you go outside you’re going to die.

I don’t know man, the coast guard has been out the entire week here. Either they’re searching for people non stop or just continually patrolling but they’re there doing their job.
