Not a lefty.
Businesses are not paying enough to get reliable employees. The market rate is MUCH higher than what places are starting at. An unskilled person with a car can make $30/hr in the gig economy, why would they take a crappy $10/hr job??
Money is worth less, much less, than it was 18 months ago, nobody disputes that but people put their head in the sand when it comes to paying more for labor.
Everyone is paying more for cars, houses, lumber, food, etc. Labor has to go up to make it worth it for people to work.

I can't speak for all businesses but in mental health I pay techs exactly what I can based on what insurance companies will reimburse us for. What we offer is more security and stability than gig work plus benefits. Problem is workers these days are short sighted and aren't looking past the hourly rate. I've been on a HUGE hiring push since January and have not been able to hire a soul. I bet that changes to at least some degree when this bullshite ends

Can you tell me what created that?

Good luck finding a person with a car.
For a while I thought my husband was a damned taxi service with all the employees he was shuttling around just to have people to come to work
Those losers will take a $10/hr job when the unemployment ends

That’s called inflation. Your solution to inflation on goods due to covid is inflate wages? You must be great at economics.

So why aren't they taking their car and doing that? Uber and Lyft are also short workers.
quote:
Uber and Lyft are facing a supply shortage, as returning and newly vaccinated customers again flood the apps, only to find out there aren’t enough drivers to serve them. It’s resulting in longer wait times and higher fares for riders. The companies cited drivers’ ongoing hesitance regarding fears of contracting the coronavirus and lingering concerns that demand has dried up, even as customers in many major cities have resumed riding. Uber and Lyft are offering incentives and paying out what they say are record wages as they attempt to lure drivers back to the apps.

You are so full of shite. I know of restaurant owners who were paying well above the average, even the dishwaher was making $12/hour, and they still couldn't show up on time or even at all. You think the low-grade pieces crap that have zero work ethic deserve more pay or that more pay will suddenly make them better employees? You are laughably ignorant and naive.

Says only you. Time for a little more self evaluation. Or maybe you mean you are right handed?
