MLB is a joke

Where to begin? This league has some problems. Will it ever get its act together???
Payroll discrepancy. Looks like there will never be a resolution to this problem. Some teams gross revenue are less than other team’s payrolls! The league is clearly lopsided in favor of the rich teams.
Too many teams in the post season. The whole point of the 162 game season was to determine who the best teams are. A second placed team is at best, second best. Since the second wild card was introduced teams who failed to win just 90 games have met in the world series. I get it, the whole point to add more teams in the postseason, was to play more games, and therefore increase revenue but this diminishes the regular season.
Cap in the draft. Back a decade ago, a number of small market teams were making waves when they talked high school talent away from going to college by paying sizable signing bonuses. In 2011, the Royals talked talented high school athlete Bubba Starling out of becoming the QB of the Nebraska Cornhuskers by paying him $7.5 million. In the same draft, Josh Bell, the 15th best over prospect by some sources, wrote a letter to every team, informing them he was going to college so dont waste their time drafting him. With the 61st pick in the draft, the Pirates got him under contract by offering a $5 million signing bonus. For some reason, MLB caved to the Red Sox complaint when the Pirates drafted the man they wanted. Now, there is a cap in the draft and the teams cant go over, unless they want to face draconian punishments. Funny, I dont recall the Royals or Pirates complaining when the Red Sox were among the top payrolls in the league.
MLB owners are interested in making a profit and not contending. I suppose I can't prove it but it's hard to imagine the owners are not making a profit. It sadly wasnt this pathetic ten years ago. I dont see this issue in the other leagues.
MLB is a sad pathetic joke with no end in sight.

MLB's most financially solvent teams
There were also 4th in MLB revenue last year.
quote:
San Francisco Giants – No debt, second best Operating Income (OI) in MLB
Boston Red Sox – No debt, solid OI, great market, legacy franchise
Los Angeles Angels – No debt, strong OI, high-population market
New York Yankees – No debt, easily the top revenue team in MLB, best legacy in the game
Toronto Blue Jays – No debt, reasonable player costs, good market in terms of population

When I read that I thought you were gonna straight to the fact that Rob Manfred is a fool and the worst commissioner of any pro sport in history and how he mishandled one scandal and is about to mishandle another.

I dont have a problem with any of these issues...maybe outside of a cap. But anyway, the more pressing issues with MLB, in my opinion, has to do with the current rules and alignment. MLB needs a universal DH (Get over it). Once that is installed, then make every franchise play every other franchise in MLB. As an Indians fan, i HATE the fact that the Tribe has to play the Royals, Twins, Tigers and ChiSox 10000 times a year. Give me MORE choice as a fan and consumer. I want to see the Tribe play the Dodgers, Giants and Cubs...etc. With a universal DH, it opens up fan bases to seeing new opposing franchises. But i digress...the "purists" will lose their minds over this.

You already have interleague where your division will play another division from the NL.
Reds, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Pirates this year
2019 was the NL East
2020 was supposed to be the NL West correct?

Oh wow...3-4 IL series every year. Ask yourself...why did MLB do that to begin with? Maybe, it was because of exactly what i said?

I hate IL, MLB did it to make money and take advantage of what they thought were natural rivalries
Yankees-Mets
Indians-Reds
Oakland-Giants
Dodgers-Angels
Etc.... It was stupid then as is now

What is holding MLB is the commissioner and him messing with the balls, run time of games, the 3 pure outcome hitters, MLB not hyping these young players, etc

Well, I just told you what my personal issue is with MLB. There must be some merit to my argument if MLB has experimented with both IL play and universal DH recently. It needs to happen permanently, sooner rather than later.

I agree on the DH
I disagree on making every team play every team
MLB does shite at promoting players and players who try to promote themselves (Trevor Bauer) get slapped with silly fines.

I am just curious as to why though? There are 162 games...why are you against playing every team in MLB? Give the fans new experiences...new stadiums...new cities to explore. I 10000% agree with you when it comes to marketing and promotion...MLB is the absolute bottom feeder when it comes to that...even below NHL and MLS.

Part of it is as a purist, not everything needs to change for the sake of changing. MLB still allows team's to play each other over the course of 3 years, right now playing 18 against division rivals is just better. I want to see the Yankees play more games against Tampa, Red Sox, O's, and Jays than I do against Pirates, Rockies, Mets, etc...
It separates who really is the best team is in each league and division IMO then the postseason (I'm not a fan of WC or 2nd WC) should be about putting the beat vs the best and seeing which league is superior in the World Series.
