Question regarding true detective season 2

Are we supposed to side with rays wife? Cuz I know he’s an a-hole but I feel like almost everything he does she should be thankful for. She comes off as a bitch imo

Ray dealing with the kid and his dad was the best part of the series.
Too many main characters, not enough time spent by Nic Pizzolatto working on the script with HBO trying to capitalize on the success of the first season. Bad idea overall and they learned their lesson, 3 and a half years between the debut of season 2 and season 3.
ETA: Will still never recapture the chemistry between Woody Harrelson and the rebirth of Matthew McConaughey

I'd watch a whole series about Ray and his fatherly adventures. Maybe call it "That's My Dad?"
I'm just finishing Season 2. Wasn't as terrible as I remember but like the first time, I'm not exactly sure what all is going on. I should pay more attention. I will say the police shootout was crazy.

Season 2 isn't as bad as most remember and season 1 isn't as good. The switch to LA hurt the show, but I get that most people think of detectives and think Los Angeles but the settings in season 1 and 3 are really different and that is a good thing for the show. There are also too many characters imo. Vince Vaughn and his wife feel like they are in very different shows than everyone else.

I agree and I recall through 5 or 6 episodes some on here calling it one of the best shows on tv and I was trying to pump the brakes and see if they could land it. They didn't imo. I recall thinking season 2 should've been the 2 cops that were reexamining the case and interviewing McConaughey and Harrelson picking up the case and tying it to someone bigger. But I haven't watched season 1 since 2014 so I'm not sure if that would've actually worked or not.

I don't know. I watched it week to week when it first aired then later I went back and watched a few episodes at a time. Of course its a little different when you already know what happens, but I wouldn't say it isn't as good.
When season 2 started I watched maybe two episodes and was disappointed that it was a completely different format. It seemed like because season 1 was so popular they had to put out a season 2, but then season 3 they went back to the format of season 1 and it was really good.

Colin Farrell was really good. And if I recall the line he says "I like to get wet from a number of bad habits." That feels like redemption.

They were amazing, but TD rebounded nicely in season 3. I really enjoyed Ali and Dorff

Season 3 had its moments with Dorf and Ali. The porch scene was really good imo.
