I want to top off my attic insulation in two of my condos in BR...two story townhomes (1200 sq foot) so attic space is about 600 sw feet each.

Present insulation is decent but I want to top it off because full sun heats it up and not vented well..but a condo so I can not touch the roof ..

Also not doing anything to roof (spray foam) because I do not want any discussions with hoa that my activity possibly shortened roof life...

Thanks

I bought 20 bags of insulation from Home Depot and the blower was free for the first day. I did my house and my moms in a day. It was very easy and I probably could have done a third house in the day. Houses were both around 2500 sqft.

I was in the same boat and based on several recommendations from this board, I called Kyle at Cajun Foam. They did both spray foam and blown insulation at my house.

BUMP - Just had an inspection and he said I need to take care of insulation in attic, it is bare in spots and only 2-3 inches in other spots, I will attempt to DIY but I also noticed, there is zero insulation over the carport, is that the norm? Anywho I may spray that area as well. Since it is still cool I can work on sealing things until the time comes to remove and spray new cellulose.

Common to not have insulation over the garage, or any place over a non insulated room for that matter

Common like wick said, fyi it was cheaper for me to hire it out vs doing it myself with the time commitment.

A&E insulation was in/out in like 2 hours and topped off ~1500 sf

As stated this is the norm - you don’t need insulation over non-conditioned areas of the house (areas not heated or cooled by the HVAC system).

48 year old house, should I bother with removing the old?

Yeah insulation is insulation - just top it off, removing it is a waste.

Mines older and had settled, compacted from construction, moved from construction. Topping it off was easy, removing it would likely have a guy falling through the floor.

any recs for company in Lafayette?

Attic is empty, according to inspector we need to get AC ducting off of floor. Doing research need to Air Seal, and install gable vents.

I have looked at the spray foam under roof thing, but no one can answer how you inspect or check for leaks whenever I ask about it.

This would be my concern as well.
