Where does the leftist path we are now on end?

Strict Islamic and Communist countries do not allow dissent. They don’t allow people to talk openly against their government, and they imprison and execute people who do things they deem to be, abhorrent or doesn’t follow their strict party or religious dictates.
Do leftist even understand that this is where we are headed with the social media bans, doxxing, firings over offensive speech, etc?
I believe there are many leftist who would have no problem jailing or killing their opponents if they could, but do they really think the genie will be able to be put back in the bottle once this current path finds them?

A slow grind toward totalitarianism, suppression of the right to dissent, loss of individual rights, the end of freedom as we know it. The rise of a statist system that rivals present day Russia and China.
ETA: The end of honest elections and the ability of our citizens to have a real voice in the election our leaders.
