Do you believe these type of players are gone forever or will we eventually see more in the NBA? Four of the most fundamental players to ever play the game and dominate from the post. Back to the basket, shakes, Hook shots, up and under, drop step, fall aways you name it! High percentage, chess over checkers style basketball that’s like poetry motion. I’m all for three pointers but it sucks not seeing these bigger kids not understand how to use their length and size. Nowadays all we get are 6’10 kids wanting to shoot contested threes and be point guards. There are a few that can do it but if these damn AAU circuits and high schools get these kids to realize their potential and strengths instead of being flashy, we’d have more quality players. Embiid and Jokic are two good examples of blue collar post players that know where their bread and butter is. Occasionally they take the outside shot which is fine but typically they’re on the low block dominating a 1 on 1 situation or sucking in the defense to create for their teammates.

Shooting and dribbling are skills. Important skills.

Are some of these bigs doing it too much as the game shifts? Sure. But plenty are really good at it and as time goes on, they will get better and better at both.

I don’t get why some people want to see less skilled bigs.

I would argue guys like Embiid and Jokic are just as skilled as the big’s in the 90’s

Who are some examples of some big guys who shoot too many 3’s?

I think it’s interesting to think about how some of the guys from the past would be in the league today. Like how their skills would have developed differently, for instance Michael Jordan probably would be a lights out 3 point shooter if that’s what was emphasized to him.

Players today are too soft. 80's players would eat them alive.

Someone like Duncan will always have a place in the sport. I was a bit too young to really watch the other guys, but anyone who can defend, rebound, pass, extend his range a bit, and do it all extremely efficiently like Duncan could has a place in the game. Go look at old man Duncan dominating DeAndre Jordan in a few of the games in the 2015 Spurs/Clippers series.

The NBA has become an elevated game of horse.
Unwatchable.

All the players these days work on is a 3 point shot... you won’t get a big man to perfect a sky hook or a fade away like Hakeem had....

dude yeah. Every team now and recently would run screaming from the likes of the Pistons, Bulls, Celtics or Lakers or Sixers. Hell even the Jazz would terrify them.

AD. Guy is a complete disaster offensively these days. He’s pretty damn elite in the paint, but he refuses to go in there even when he plays his preferred position of Power Forward against much smaller guys. Guy just chucks contested mid ranges all game and occasionally gets some free throws bc he’s weak and goes down writhing in pain if there is any semblance of contact.

AD is an elite defender, but his pussy arse mindset has ruined him offensively.

I watched the Lakers game yesterday and the only guy who even had the balls to go into the paint for the entire 2nd half was Dennis Schroeder. He kept telling his team that they were in the bonus and they still kept chucking dumb arse jumpers. Luckily for them CP3’s shoulder is broken so they can probably get away with that sort bullshite offense in Rd 1.

I guess this kind of more my point. I don’t mind skilled big men. More skilled big men are great, but players do not utilize high efficiency shots anymore especially players who have size to dominate on the inside.

Exactly, sometimes AD hits his jump shots and that’s great, but like game 1, he refused to be physical and use his post game against Ayton and played his worst game as a Laker.

Not with today’s rules..... put a team from now back in the 80’s and they would get crushed by how physical it was..... played didn’t fall on the floor crying like a bitch in those days....
