My 14 year old is interested in attending a summer camp for overwatch. Any recommendations?

If you love your son, you will not allow this

Fwiw, he has a four thousand dollar computer and has multiple overwatch accounts ranked in top 500.

I don't know squat about gaming but I figured a summer camp would be fun. I am seeing lots of virtual options. I was just hoping you guys would have a recommendation.

Sounds like fun. As a side benefit it should greatly reduce the risk of teen pregnancy.

He will get big on Twitch and meet a hot tub succubus. His fragile son will be manipulated by this hot tub succubus and end up dumped, losing all his viewers, and then be forced to watch what he thinks is the love of his life expose herself on onlyfans.

All of this pain and misery for your family can be avoided if you simply don’t send your son to Overwatch camp.

Honestly, I had no idea video game summer camps even existed.

Me either. But I googled it and there are a bunch.

These 2 seem to be the most popular:

https://esports.uci.edu/camp/overwatch-camp/

https://www.esportscamps.com/camps/virtual-overwatch-camp-with-uptime-esports

They are both virtual.

Do you guys have an opinion or first hand knowledge of either of these?

No idea. But OW is pretty much the only game I play anymore 5 years on... love just to play Spotify and go at it without having to listen to a story dialogue, etc. I'm 33 though and only ever topped at 2905 so far (high Platinum). I'm currently 2600 on tank and 2780 on support. DPS queues suck so I usually just do my placements, which I haven't yet.

What’s the point of even enrolling a kid to a virtual one? He can just play over watch instead. Send his arse to a scout camp and make him sleep in a tent.

Just poking around the links you posted, it looks like the following:

Since it's virtual, he'll spend a solid chunk of time over a week chatting with people involved in competitive Overwatch, getting coaching on his play within OW, and actual practice with feedback on that practice.

Basically, the payment is for the advice/feedback from those with professional experience in OW in addition to making some connections possibly. Whether or not that's worth it is another matter entirely.

If that's the case I would just see if you can view the tutors profiles and pick the one with the best tutors.

He was on a scrimmage team that was professionally coached for the past 6 months. He was so far ahead of his teammates that the coaches reccomended moving on to a higher level of competition. The major thing holding him back at this point is the fact that he is 14...

Yeah, I think most people here are a little lost on the subject but I guess I would just see if the people available at the camp have won any major tourneys recently. Does your son have an opinion on which one is best? I would think he would be pretty keyed into this.

Sorry...not much help.

I should also mention that these camps are virtual because of covid.

Lsu has an esports team. If they hosted a camp he 100% would be attending but unfortunately they don't have anything like that.

maybe its a thing now, but video game summer camp? Thats like for introverted serial killers.

What ever happened to day camps at the Y learning to ride horse back, archery and water skiing?

Used to do a team soccer camp for a week as well.

This seems like hes literally going to go to summer camp on his computer in his room.
