TEXAS Constitutional Carry bill...headed to GOVERNOR

A measure long sought by conservative activists allowing Texans to carry handguns without a license is on the cusp of becoming law after the Texas Senate approved a compromise on the bill Monday, sending it to Gov. Greg Abbott.
Abbott has said he would sign the permitless carry proposal into law.
"We should have 'constitutional carry' in Texas," Abbott told North Texas radio host Rick Roberts in April.
Just before midnight Sunday, the House approved the deal, hashed out behind closed doors, in an 82-62 vote. The Senate approved the deal Monday in a 17-13 vote.

Find any RINOs that voted against this and vote them out.

The criminals have been doing it for years. It's time to allow law abiding citizens to carry without needing to pay a fee to get government permission.

I totally agree with this in principle.
My only reservation is the baw who is not trained or respectful of the nature of the tool and starts to carry.
The first accident that happens will trigger non stop RREEEEEEEEEEEE!

Training is not a requirement to gain a CHL/LTC. Don't attempt to tell me that the CHL/LTC course is training because it isn't. If this is your concern then you should have been complaining prior to the passage of constitutional carry.
Constitutional Carry means our government cannot restrict our ability to carry to protect and defend ourselves. It is the individual's responsibility to make certain they are proficient in handling the firearm.

I can support CC and still be wary of how the left and their media propagandists will use the first accident to attack the 2A. My concern lies with not giving them fuel.

Im more intrigued my the "Suppressor Freedom" act than constitutional carry. It just passed the house and senate and is waiting on Abbott to sign it. LINK
As far as constitutional carry goes, I believe that people should have to take a class prior to carrying. With all the laws and consequences that come with pulling your firearm, people need to know what will/can happen to them.
My ideal setup would be for the sheriff's offices to offer the class for free coming out of their community outreach budgets. Then the permit be 'shall issue' rather than 'may issue'. This would still ensure people know the laws and consequences of carrying while removing the cost (personal tax) associated with obtaining a permit.
I know its not a popular opinion, but I stand by it.

There is at least some requirement (or was when I got mine). It is better than zero.

What other God given right requires approved training before exercising? Should we all have speech and writing minimum requirements before we can exercise our first amendment rights?

Interesting. I am sure the Feds will be slow to enforce the federal law on suppressors the way they are the federal law on MJ. lol.

My senator, Jane Nelson, was a very reluctant vote for this bill. She was not in favor of it but went along with it.
This is what you are supposed to do. Vote the will of the people, even if you have personal troubles with it.

Big win for TX.
If the assumption is that everyone is carrying, the stories along the lines of what happened at race trac the other morning will be few and far between.
(Yes I am aware that was in LA before some dipshit comes through to argue semantics).

Never argued that training should be a requirement to carry. That is up the the individual, the the government. Not sure what you are arguing here.

This is your mistake. They will attack it regardless, for any reason, real or manufactured.
We do not curtail our rights in the hope that we'll gain approval from the left, or even deny them some vector to make the same attacks they'd otherwise be making.

If they pass that suppressor freedom act, I might have to make a trip.

Life is easier if you ignore the media. In fact, just do the opposite of what the media says and you will quickly get ahead in life.

You do have to pass a basic shooting test although its pretty far from proficiency.....but you do have to pass a basic test,
The biggest benefit to CHL process is learning the laws and responsibilities that come with concealed carry.

So much downvote but this is true. Anymore these days, stopping thieves gets you into more trouble than the thieves get into if they caught by the law.
It is a tool. Tools require time to learn to wield. And there are serious consequences when you mess up with one.
That being said, anything that makes it easier to own and carry weapons is welcome by me. Congress passed a 2 billion package to basically shield their activities from our eyes. They are scared of something and have been since 2001. (I really miss just being able to walk into the capitol and hear them talk from the gallery.)

I understand and I went through this same course. I don’t think anyone would consider a 6-8 hour class with the overwhelming majority of it in a classroom setting as training. Lol. One could pass the shooting portion with their eyes closed.
And again, I’m not advocating that citizens should be required by our government overlords to pass some type of proficiency test before exercising their God given right to carry and protect themselves. Just don’t call what they do now as training.
