Someone probably didn't get the position they wanted, so now they're going the Jussie Smollett route.

I believe every bit of it. Back in 2003 one of my good buddies was very close to Joel and was one of his “12 apostles”. He told me Joel “hated fat people” and was very judgmental of people, which I thought was strange for a religious leader. Joel was also incredibly materialistic. I was told he owned thousands of suits bc he could never wear a suit twice since he was on television and people would notice. I’ve met Joel a couple of times and he is a mega creep.

Nothing would surprise me from that church... They are borderline cultish. Known a few people that were members, and they can get down right forceful with their view of Christianity.

I do know the son that took it over was picked(chosen$) by his father bc he is so homely looking he knew he’d never make it in a regular world. I also know he’s spent a ton of money on plastic surgery to try and not look like an inbred troglodyte. Ear tucks, eye lifts, jowl removals and so on.

Nothing would surprise me from that place.

Funny how there are people in here defending this cult. Those same people would be calling Scientology a cult. It’s all a cult. Bethany is trash. Deal with it.

Around 2001, Joel was friends with my ex girlfriend new boyfriend. He was a little older and leading youth services at Bethany and maybe even already a Pastor. Anyway this dude was trying to start shite and fight. I laughed at this goofy clown and walked away. The Stockstill kids were also spoiled growing up with new BMW's etc.

Yep. Pretty much. Not that most of the “concepts” are not true. But this is an example of terrible journalism that makes the entire story poo

You're going to have to show me all the people defending a cult. The reports given of abuse are situations that could easily have been taken out of context by some butt-hurt ex-member and inflated by a journalist trying to sell copy. I'm going to have to see more evidence than someone crying to the newspaper before I assume there's legitimate wrong-doing.

You probably got really angry at those filthy cultish Catholics in DC mocking that poor native American veteran, too, huh?

SO, they went from Saved by GRACE and not works to being a real Christian through going through ridicule, humiliation and basically making you feel like human garbage?

What an enormous leap from accepting the free gift of salvation through faith, and allowing God to do that change in you by drawing closer to Him in prayer and reading and absorbing the scriptures and accepting Christ in your life every day, to working for your salvation and you doing the work to become a “real Christian”.

Ive never met one person who was truly converted to Christianity who embodied the real change God can do in your life through humiliation, intimidation, and self loathing acts. NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON. The only way people are ever drawn to Christ is through experiencing His life changing love in our lives. It’s the love of God that causes real change, not put on nonsense or devotion to a denomination or earthly church body, but actually joining God’s kingdom. It is GOD that draws man, not man. God gets the glory, not man. Searching for God, and knocking on His door to seek Him out is still the only way to experience real change in your life, not enduring some brow beating, or abasing yourself for God, as it then becomes your self sacrifice that does it rather than letting God do it in your life and He gets the glory.

Paul, Peter, Stephen, or any of the first Church Christians were not made stronger Christians through the hardships they endured, but by God’s spirit were they preserved, and God’s love were they encouraged to take hard stances through those hardships. GOD is the one who did the preserving through it all, but it was not the hardships that made them stronger Christians.

What absurdity. I’m really disappointed in Bethany for that. Really Really Disappointed.
