Summer Colorado Town - with Kids

Planning a trip for late July to somewhere in Colorado for 7-10 days with two kids ages 7 and 10. We are relatively outdoorsy (mostly hunting and fishing) but kids have never been out west. Looking for a fun mountain town with stuff for kids to do, good restaurants, etc. Will be driving from Louisiana. Looking at Telluride/Montrose area or Aspen/Snowmass. Would appreciate any input...thanks.

I've taken my kids to Breckenridge in the summer and they've had a blast. We drove over to Buena Vista for some rafting and really enjoyed that too.

honestly any of the popular mountain resort towns will work here
I'd probably lean towards Estes/RMNP though

Adding one to consider: Steamboat.

If you are driving, consider Durango. The Durango Silverton Railroad, Bar D Chuckwagon, Purgatory Resort has kids activities, a lot of rafting opportunities, hiking trails everywhere, Mesa Verde NP, etc.
How old are your kids ?

There are some zip lining options in Idaho Springs that would be great for kids.

A couple of hours from Denver is Mt. Evans, highest paved road in North America at 14k+ feet. The summit is only 150' than the parking area. There are Mt goats and bighorn sheep walking all around. I highly recommend the stop

We did Taos a couple years ago. Hit Carlsbad caverns on way, watch the bats at sunset. Stayed at an AIRBNB. We did Taos Pueblo, pottery class, white water rafting, horse back riding, hiking, Gorge Bridge. etc. Drove over to Angel Fire one day and did zip line and mountain top frisbee golf. Angel Fire has a huge mountain biking operation in the summer which looks like a blast. Hit up Santa Fe for a day also. Late July the white water rafting will be more like canoeing.

Made a 14 day road trip last summer with 8-3 year old boys. Everywhere we went was awesome. Glennwood Springs was my boys favorite. 7 days might be too long but amusement park and hot springs was a change of pace for boys. Estes Park was a good one too. RMNP to hike and plenty of fishing. Plus another small amusement park with big slide and other crap to keep them entertained.
