To pass time, I was thinking this week who I would like to see LSU play out of conference in the coming years. I know many will probably never happen but it's worth dreaming about. Below is who and why.

USC - Endless reasons, Plus a return trip to Southern Cali in a home and home would be sweet.

Rutgers - I really like their coach and they are building a nice, respectable program up there. Would be nice for a return trip and LSU could market itself on the Upper East Coast which is never a bad thing.

Michigan - Could be wrong, but don't think LSU has ever played there. It's Miles old school and would bring alot of interesting story lines and I think a home and home would be great.

Oklahoma State - Growing program that has alot of excitement around it and plus Les was there before us so it would bring some excitement and flare to the game. LSU could market itself to the state of Oklahoma recruits.

Penn State - Always wanted to go to Happy Valley and how awesome would it be to see LSU play there? LSU could market itself to the great High School talent of Penn.

Iowa - Would be fun to tailgate with the nice Iowa fans once again and we need payback for that garbage ending to the Capitol One Bowl.

Texas - Probably will never happen but our Tigers playing in Austin would be HUGE, don't think we have ever played there, again might be wrong. Would love to tailgate with the shorthorn fans again and show them how tailgating is really done.

Clemson - Would love to show those Tiger fans what the REAL Death Valley is really like. Visiting Clemson again would be fun and that place can rock pretty good when the Tigers are playing well.

Nebraska - Great place for a college football game and it would be great to see our Tigers in their white jersey's playing in Lincoln in the Sea of Red again Ole Bo Pelini. Fun travel game for Tiger fans and Nebraska fans are spicy and love their football, would have a great time.

Oregon Ducks - Always wanted to go check out Autzen Stadium and see if it's as loud as everyone says it is. Gorgeous part of our Country that I've never gotten to see before. Pretty nice fans from Duck country. Would be a fun time I think up there and in BR for a home and home series.

Thats my Top 10 Wish list in the next 10 years. Probably be lucky to see one of the 10 actually play LSU.

I would add:

Boston College and/or UCONN.....get some exposure in New England and we have a pretty large alumni base within 250 miles...

I think we should concentrate our OOC schedule in areas of fertile recruiting grounds that we tend to pick from. In this respect, I think most ACC (Southern) teams would be a great match-up. Also, in this respect, I'm not sure I understand our fascination w/ the Pac 10 (Arizona, ASU, Washington). While I am glad we have these match-ups, I don't think they help recruiting as much as if we played FSU, Miami, GaTech and the likes.
So my list:
FSU, Miami, Ga Tech, UNC, OhioSt, BC, WVU, UVA, VaTech....

Agreed. This is the reason I would not mind playing North Texas in the Dallas area if the game cannot be played in Tiger Stadium.

Now I will kind of go away from the recruiting thought and say I would like to see Notre Dame on the schedule.

I'll be happy if we just play one OOC BCS school a year. Odds are that some years those schools will be up and some years they will be down.

I wouldn't mind a 4-6 year rotating rivalry with Tulane, Texas A&M, FSU and Notre Dame.

As for warm ups and Div 1AA schools, I say play an in state school so we can keep that rent-a-win money in state.

8 SEC
1 OOC BCS
1 Rivalry
2 Cupcakes

Texas A&M would be a good BCS OOC game...expecially if Mike Sherman could build them up to be respectful again...and also OK St. Both would be good for recruiting also.

FSU would give the media something to hype also with the Jimbo Fischer angle.

1. Texas A&M. Traditional rival, fertile recruting ground, and LSU would win at least 2/3 of these matchups.

2. Rice. I'm a traditionalist, and there are only four schools (Mississippi State, Tulane, Ole Miss, & Alabama) whom LSU has played more in football. An occasional game at Reliant Stadium in September would make for a good recruiting trip (Texas played Tulane in the Superdome and won the national title the next year, fwiw).

3. Georgia Tech. Usually an easy win, an old conference foe, fertile recruiting ground, but probably can't schedule them very often; their priorities with the SEC would be Georgia then Auburn (they played 85 consecutive years).

4. Miami. The glory days are over, and we'd win at least 2/3 of these games. Considering we're 4-of-6 vs. the Gators, that means we'd have two wins a year over Florida's heavyweights half the time. Cha-ching!

5. Florida State. Same as 4, but FSU's constant rivalry with the Gators might hinder this in most years.

6. Texas. I think a lot of people around the country would like to see this one. I think the Longhorns will answer a call from Fayetteville before they answer one from Baton Rouge, though, for plenty of reasons (some respectable).

7. Texas Christian. They're a BCS program in a non-BCS conference, and an occasional visit to the Dallas-Fort Worth area would be fun and good for the program.

t8. Army. If we're going to schedule a cupcake, let's schedule these guys and treat them like kings while they're here. They deserve a good meal on us.

t8. Navy.

t8. Air Force.

My Top 10 would go like this:

Up North:

Michigan
Penn State
Notre Dame

Southeast:

Miami
FL State
Georgia Tech
Clemson

Southwest:

Texas
TX A&M
TX Tech

Screw the west coast....too far away & not interested with anyone in the Pac 10

Jason, great list and can't say I disagree with any of them.

Another fun place to play would be against Ohio St. in the Horseshoe. Talk about an epic battle, and with Miles hatred of OSU and everything 'red', it would be interesting.

I'd like to see LSU play great name programs... perhaps also in places that matter for recruiting

So maybe....

Texas
Texas A&M
FSU
Miami
Georgia Tech
OSU
UCLA
USC

It's my perception that Texas and A&M probably don't want to let LSU get further inroads into Texas recruiting... and are therefore unlikely to play but the effort should still be made

I wouldn't mind seeing some Big East matchups, since USF and WVU have beaten SEC teams in recent years. Maybe WVU, followed by Louisville, Rutgers, USF.
