Dr.Strange not in WandaVision b/c Feige didn't want "white guy" showing how "power worked"

The story of WandaVision‘s main character, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), is set to continue in 2022’s Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but the two projects were almost linked much more directly. As Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reveals in Rolling Stone‘s upcoming, extensive oral history of WandaVision, Marvel struck a deal with Benedict Cumberbatch to appear in the final episode of the show as Dr. Strange. But late in the process, they wrote him out.
quote:
“Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Dr. Strange,’” says Feige. “But it would have taken away from Wanda, which is what we didn’t want to do. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’”
quote:
That meant the Dr. Strange movie, too, had to be rewritten. In the end, Feige says, Marvel’s process is “a wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination, and chaos. Chaos magic.” At one point, back when Dr. Strange was supposed to be part of the story, the in-universe commercials were going to be messages from Strange to Wanda, and there was also talk of having Cumberbatch appear in one of the ads, head writer Jac Schaeffer says.

Why come out and say this? This is the problem with Hollywood, they have to SHOW they're Woke. Just don't have him in it and don't say anything about it. Nobody knew about this and no one cared. But you have to shout your woke BS from the roof top. Now you just look woke and stupid and make me fear for the future of Marvel projects!

This shouldn't be surprising, because everyone knew this was happening based on many of the projects that have already been green-lit.
But now you have absolute confirmation. The entire creative process at Marvel Studios is now being actively sabotaged by their obsessive adherence to race and gender politics. They literally tossed their entire creative direction for WandaVision and the next Dr. Strange movie because they didn't want to appear to give the white man too much power.

Feige Behind the Scenes: "Benedict we will offer you $1 million to make a 5 minute cameo on the show."
Benedict Cumberbatch: "Make it $20 million."
Feige to Media: "We didn't want a white male to be the savior and mansplain magic!! We love women. #Hers"

Agree. He could have just said they didn't want Dr Strange to take away from Wanda and left it at that
No reason to bring up the white guy and be all woke.

This. He could also say - what I imagine the executives actually decided - they wanted the streaming series to be stand-alone and not required tie-ins to the movies.
They're really trying to expand the female audience, so it makes perfect sense that they decided to leave Wanda on her own. But STFU up about "white guy." I'm sick of reading about "old white males" in so many fricking comments and even "serious news" columns.

Is anyone surprised by this? Sure the real reason might be something normal, but how often can we hear this stuff before a lot of it actually turns out true? I know studios are very deliberate in showing their commitment to identity politics.
I'm curious how long they'll do this.

theyll do it until it starts affecting viewership and earnings. the thing is well all probably watch the next thing despite wokeness. has marvel gotten too big to fail?

It's gotten big enough to pluck obscure side characters out of the pages of comic books past and give first time directors a huge audience. Who knows if there is a bubble.
May be showing my ignorance here, but I think it's kind of unprecedented to successfully adapt such a large character universe through multiple mediums and platforms.

No they can certainly still fail. It may not be catastrophic, but they can wilt and die. Right now the machine is rolling along mostly because they continue to put out decent watchable popcorn flicks. If they go full woke and start writing nonsense just to prove their wokeness. People will stop watching.

But by giving that quote, isn't Feige doing white mansplaining?

Marvel is going to end up shooting themselves in the foot if they're not careful.
Tbh I think they made the right decision to not include Strange, even though I was waiting for his cameo the whole time. WV was a great standalone show. There were a million mephisto theories, and I didn't think there would be any true resolution to the movie. Both of those ended up not being true.
In any case, there didn't need to be any explanation for this. Most fans were pretty content with Wanda having her own story where she didn't need other Avengers to come in and save her.

Reading between the lines, he's creating a "firebreak" to keep the screeching mob of transgendered Karens at bay.
