Basically everything on this list has had a good showing, but Ben Franklin was particularly impressive as being within the top 100 nationwide:

quote:

1. Benjamin Franklin High School - New Orleans

2. Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy - Avondale

3. Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies - Metarie

4. Lusher Charter School - New Orleans

5. Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies - Gretna

6. Baton Rouge Magnet High School - Baton Rouge

7. Caddo Parish Magnet High School - Shreveport

8. Lee High School - Baton Rouge (now Liberty Magnet HS)

9. Louisiana School for Math Science and the Arts - Natchitoches

10. Rosepine High School - Rosepine

11. Dutchtown High School - Geismar

12. Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts - Opelousas

13. St. Amant High School - St Amant

14. Zachary High School - Zachary

15. Lafayette High School - Lafayette

16. LSU Laboratory School - Baton Rouge

Unfortunately there's also a handful of "average" schools followed by a bunch of absolutely terrible high schools.

Take out the gifted program and you have a typical trash public school. It's lipstick on a pig here.

Interesting to see Dutchtown and St. Amant ahead of Zachary. But ascension parish has always put an emphasis on their good public school so unsurprising. Superintendent Alexander was my principal at Dutchtown and he does an excellent job over there.

Basically DeRidder.

Also Lee High just changed their name to Liberty Magnet.

Great job Lee! They have been steadily building towards their goal of being an alternative to BRMHS

How does this list compare with public schools in other states?

Ben Franklin being number 1 in LA would put them where in a better state? Are they just the smartest kid with down's here?

WTF is wrong with LSU Lab?!? Have they been lying to me about their quality of education all this time?

Generally, anything ranked in the top 1700 nationwide is considered very good. Which is all the ones on the list I posted.

Top 500 nationwide is amazing and indisputably top tier. Only the first few in the list in Louisiana make that cut.

Top 100 nationwide is absolutely stellar and elite, which is where Ben Franklin sits (64 in the nation). It's truly an impressive school and a real stand out. Everyone involved should congratulate themselves on that.

I would rank the Lab School behind a few of the private schools in BR, but I wouldn't have expected it to rank behind the suburb public schools.

The LSU Lab school has fallen or was overstated before.

The list surprises me as well.

I don't think U High is bad by any stretch. But the AP schools have been improving lately.

For a cities their size, Baton Rouge and New Orleans actually have some stand outs. I just wish the baseline public schools in both cities were much improved over what they are now.
