I wish I could vote for her, and I applaud those who did.

How do you afford housing, food, auto expenses, medical expenses, necessities on $12/hr? Maybe if your live on rice and beans, live in dilapidated apartment, take the bus, and never go to the doctor. That shouldn’t be the standard of living though for someone who works full time in a first world economy.

Seems like the restaurants here are fully packed and everyone is fully staffed

Maybe that's cause 600 a mnth barely pays your gas bill here

Not in South Louisiana, I went to 3 different restaurants over the weekend, for lunch and dinner. All were fully staffed, and so packed they had a wait, this was in 3 different towns.

I’m against relying on government handouts when you’re capable of working. With that being said, you can’t live off $12/hr today. Instead of blaming others for not taking your shitty job for a wage that’s lower than the cost of living, a restaurant owner should be rolling their sleeves up and doing the work themselves on the front line. Owners aren’t entitled to low wage employees.

Sure we could. It costs me $150 for me and my wife to dine out. Pay them more, and it will cost me $250? How many customers are going to do that?

Yep. Part of the plan. Artificial means to raise minimum wage by the pseudo universal base income.

All a huge joke.

Sometimes I wonder if this was the plan after all. Pay people to not work so that all the illegals streaming across our border will have jobs after they've been processed by ICE.

The new thing will be to pay re-employment. Sort of like the reverse unemployment pay. Watch and see.

McDonald’s is paying $50 just to come to the interview and they still can’t get enough applicants

Of course they could just be paid more. The question is how much more are you willing to pay for the services. Do we adjust their wages lower once the government money runs out? I am starting at $12 an hour plus pooled tips of about $4 an hour on average. That's $480 on a 30 hour work week. Still less than their unemployment check. I had 10 no shows for interviews last week. Spend a little time in the business or shut your trap.

Pretty sure you’re still trolling. If not, take a second and look up the word “minimum“ then get back to me.

I have seen MANY gas stations here on the Coast advertising bonuses of $300+ at the end of each pay period simply because they cannot hire anyone and people they do hire will just quit after a few days if they don't like it... why bother staying at a shitty job when you're working "for free" relative to the same govt check you get for staying on your arse at home.

They are going to crash the economy. Businesses will have to over pay to get workers . That will drive up prices . I don’t understand why democrats hate small businesses so much .

Ever thought about learning a trade?
The lower level wage jobs are mostly the early entry ones that subsidize people/households while an education/trade is obtained. If you're too lazy to get off your arse and learn something that will give you value then that's on you. Flipping burgers can be accomplished with monkeys...learning a profession gives one self respect....and a much fatter wallet!

I am a creature of habit. I get a fountain drink every single day, and sometimes I might go twice. The folks at the gas station know me. They are offering $12/hour plus other perks to run a cash register. It gets busy maybe once or twice during a shift, and you are inside 99% of the time. It may be boring work, but it's a helluva lot better than digging ditches. That's good for $20k per year plus benefits, and a likely bonus if you can manage to stay employed.

And if you aren't a shiatty employee, you'll earn $15, and then $20. And maybe, if you do a good job, you could even aspire to something beyond the store, like region or national? Why not? Maybe you made friends with the beer distributor, and you got offered a job there making $50k?

This store can't even get people to fill out applications. I don't understand.

My dad has had a guy working for him now for 25 years years (he is my age). This guys' DAD worked for my dad for 20+ years before that. They don't make a ton of money, but being dependable goes a long way... they get a free vehicle, meals, time off without hassle, christmas bonus, etc etc... they aren't just employees, they become family. When there is bad weather, you don't call them, they call you to see what needs to be done. And so on.

Too many people bounce from job to job without ever gaining a moment of tenure to understand that it can get better. Everyone is laser focused on the shitty starting pay to understand why it pays so little. Everyone wants to be the boss without earning it.

It's simple. You get roommates or live at home. It's not that revolutionary.

Why do you get to decide what the standard of living should be for someone that is unwilling to exhibit a skill that would pay more? Does the guy holding the stop sign deserve as much as the guy driving an excavator?

1.5% of the workforce earns minimum wage, by the way. LINK

It isn’t cool to work a “regular” job.
