re: Am I the only one who didn’t realize we were “supposed” to wear masks outside?

now we are supposed to thank Joe and Tony for “allowing” us to go maskless OUTSIDE IF you are vaccinated????
Yeah - this was definitely a s.m.h. moment - I have never ever worn a mask outside (aside from a few times when I am going from one store to another)
I do respect a store that posts "masks required" on their door - I either go in or not, depending on how urgent is my need for what they are selling. But if I enter, I respect their demands as a property owners - just like the "no shoes, no shirt, no service" signs some of them post at their entrance.
I was in H.E.B just yesterday (close to Houston area). they do not have a sign for masks required so I didn't wear one. All of the HEB staff were wearing masks, as were over 90% of the patrons. I met a total of 3 family groups not wearing masks - we smiled and nodded to each other as we passed.
I was actually sort of hoping to be challenged by one of the maskers - but I was not - not even a stern look. All is well. Many are stupid.

I’ve never worn a mask outside and never will.
As I've related before - I have COPD and have suffered from severe respiratory infections for the past five years. About five years ago, when I lived in the country, I began wearing masks when I mowed my lawn (about 3 acres of lawn + clear areas) It was very dusty and debris filled, so I ordered a whole batch of them to wear while in those conditions.
Three years ago I developed a constant cough which I could not control. So when I went to the grocery store - or anywhere I'd be around people) I wore my mowing mask to help ease other's minds when we were close together.
So I always had a good stock of masks when the pandemic arrived.
note - My cough has been cured as of this January after a week's stay in ER - had major fungal infections in my lungs which they finally cleared up - am now on regular immunology infusion therapy every 6 weeks.

Wearing a mask is stupid, wearing a mask outside is lunacy.

I work heavy construction and we have never worn masks outside during the entire plandemic. Even in our office we haven’t worn masks and no one came down with Chyna 19.

Walmart near me in GA removed their mask required sign out front which was awesome. They were one of the first big stores to go full mask when it started. So refreshing to see them remove all that when Kemp reduced the restrictions a month ago.
Additionally, Kroger still has theirs up. But I got vaccinated recently so this week I decided to blow by their mask required sign and shop without one. Feels good.
You could have been “blowing past” the sign without a mask all along. Why haven’t you? Why hasn’t everyone? All of you, that have worn a mask, allowed all of this to happen. All you had to do was say “phuck that”.

Yep, but I see it mostly in the spring.
And to all you triggerinas with the down votes on simply stating fact?

Does our irritation with masks mandates bother you?
ETA - what have we learned new today with this 10,000th thread about masks?

I’m at our local high school today. Our school system is the only place around where masks are “mandatory” but it looks like less than 50% of the staff and students are wearing them. People have had a bate of it

My goof wad liberal sister n law who lives in New Mexico goes to the dog park and scolds everyone who isn’t wearing a mask. She told the wife, I don’t want to walk though a cloud of their germs!

Yep, grew up in southeast GA and didn’t see many, save a dust mask on occasion when someone was cutting the grass.

masks outside
Good write up here from professor in Seattle:
quote:
My observations of CO2 concentrations suggest that the diffusion, dilution, and dispersion of human exhalations are very large outdoors, making the threat of outdoor COVID-19 transmission very, very low. This is consistent with the (limited) scientific literature on the topic.
Outside air is very safe, and it gets even safer during the summer since ultraviolet radiation rapidly kills airborne virus. The logical conclusion from these results is that wearing a mask outdoors is probably unnecessary. Closing outdoor parks makes no sense at all.
If any of you see some weaknesses in the above logic, let me know. That is how science works.
Cliff Mass is a boss - he was also canceled from public radio last year for not being anti-Trump
I love when I see the couples out walking their dog and they are masked. I think - they are so LUCKY...they aren't going to catch the virus from the person they live with!
