Got out of law enforcement

I got out of law enforcement less than a month ago. I was with BRPD but have since began a job in the private sector in another state. I feel lucky that I got out especially after the verdict today, along with the officer involved shooting in Ohio.
Getting out was the best decision I ever made. I will miss some of the people that I worked with and will miss the casework. However between the leadership of BRPD and the city, along with the national spotlight on everything that happens, it got to a point that it wasn’t worth it anymore.
I fear things will continue to get worse and feel for those in law enforcement that are simply trying to help their communities. And yes, there definitely are the a-hole cops out there that can’t handle an ounce of power and abuse it. I have no sympathy for them.
ETA, sorry I won’t be able to assist with the ongoing murder count in BR any longer

I got away from Law Enforcement a couple of times myself.

Well thank you for your service. Do you think a lot of other police officers with the BRPD think the same as you? Will we start to see a lot of resignations? I certainly would get the frick out and let this shite hole city burn

What are you doing now?

Good for you...hope your future is rewarding.

So, what are you doing now, working for the IRS?

I believe a lot feel the same as me but a good majority of them feel stuck because of the amount of time they have been there. I believe more will retire earlier than they had initially planned. That’s actually already going on.

Nope, I refuse to work for the government in any capacity ever again.

I thank you for your service to the community...
I see that you feel that things will get worse... Let me ask.
DO you think that the media is to blame? Is there anything that can be done to the media?
Do you think that Nationally the police may try and band together and strike, or try to show what this country would be like without law officers?
Is there discussion about not going to certain areas of town, or avoiding calls due to the increase of chances of something happening?

Which area of BR made you most uneasy to be in?

As far as the media is concerned, I think they’re definitely partly to blame. I don’t know what can be done about them though because it seems like they’re not being held accountable. What CBS did on air regarding the jurors of the Chauvin case is inexcusable.
I don’t see a national strike happening. I have no clue how that would be coordinated, and I don’t think there would be enough willing participation. However I could be wrong.
Eventually it’ll get to a tipping point and things will swing back the other way. I have no clue what that point is though.

Was it easy to find the work out west? How long ago did you decide to start looking elsewhere? Good luck out there homie and good job bettering your situation. I hope to head out that way myself one day. (Utah, Wyoming, Idaho are possibilities)

I’d say Zion City. Something about it always made me feel uneasy.

I job hunted for about 4-5 months before accepting this job offer. I wouldn’t say it easy but it wasn’t hard either. I just had to change my strategy for job hunting and revise my resume.
It had been on my mind for quite a while, but it got to a tipping point within BRPD that made me start actively job hunting.

Yep. Let cities like Minneapolis, DC, Portland be governed by the national guard for a while and see how they like that
