The ranks of this new ruling class are refreshed by immigrant academics who come to understand themselves in the way progressivism understands them: as minorities who can also act victim-like if they want—a precious endowment in the cultural academic market. To give you an idea of just how profound the gaps in achievement can be by community, consider that Black African British students achieve careers in STEM at just under 80% of the rate of their White British counterparts, whilst for Black British students of Afro-Caribbean ethnicity this figure is closer to 45%. Every parent knows the dread fear at the possibility of their children falling in with the wrong crowd, especially during the terrible teens. In a landmark study on social mobility, Dr Raj Chetty reconstructed the life path of every American child over a given period, using data available from government sources, performing a multivariate analysis to see what was responsible for upward social mobility from the bottom 20% of the socio-economic spectrum. The single biggest cause of upward social mobility was the proportion of fathers in the community in which a child grows up- it’s effect is even more profound than the quality of education the child receives.
