In the early 2000s you could buy 1/32 acre in a remote place in Alaska. The purpose was to get the Alaska Permanent Fund. Land owners weren't required to live in the state for more than half the year to claim it.

I bought a girl I dated when I was 17 a star.
Flash forward to now. I'm 40 and she's just a facebook friend.
I go to her house to help her with something. She has the star certificate hanging on the wall in the house.
I was kinda touched. I never kept a gift that long.
