state sponsored segregation

And WHY did people support that state sponsored segregation? What were their fears behind it? Why did people very much like yourself support it? And how do you know that YOU would not have supported it were you raised in that culture, time, and place?

You think you’re fukking special?

It's not hyperbole

Saying Player made it all about himself EVERY time a camera was pointed in his direction is most certainly hyperbole.

“every” time? Really now?

Should I link to interviews with Player where he speaks glowingly about Woods and Mickleson at length?

Not a racist as a result of happy accident of being born in the time, place, and culture that you were.

Had you been a white kid raised in South Africa in the 1950’s the odds are that you would have supported apartheid.

That’s the part you are not getting. You are not more virtuous a person or a “better” person. You were only lucky to be born into a different world and time. So spare me your self-righteousness and arrogance.

sigh

2015:

Mayor Hardie Davis Jr., who issued a proclamation declaring the opening day of the 2015 tournament as "Robert Lee Elder Day," and a reported 300 supporters -- including Hall of Famer Gary Player and the former presidential candidate Herman Cain -- gathered for a celebratory dinner that night at a hospitality house outside of Augusta National.

Here is African American Golfers Digest noting the honoring of Lee Elder, in YEAR 2015:

“ Lee Elder Superbly Celebrated On His 40th Year Master’s Win Anniversary By Gary Player”

“ It’s good to have friends in this game of golf, and Hall of Famer Gary Player is truly that to Lee Elder. In Augusta, Player has planned a grand celebration to mark the date. Player intends to recognize his longtime buddy, Elder, with a private celebration on Thursday evening. It will take place at a hospitality site, The Lodge, just on the outskirts of the National’s boarders on Berckman’s Road. The occasion is marked as a “by invitation only” event, and according to Elder’s wife, Sharon, the list is complete filled.

But, that won’t stop the masses of celebrants who wish to congratulate Elder. This publication has learned that individuals visiting, and living, in Augusta want to make sure that their hero Elder knows how outstanding he is, and hope to just catch a glance of him during his time in the City, and luckily shake his hand.

Augusta’s newly elected mayor, Hardie Davis, will declare Thursday, April 9 as “Lee Elder Day” in the city. We have also learned that Proclamations are being presented by individuals representing Nelson Mandela’s son and grandson, and U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, the first African American from the South to be elected to the Senate since 1881.

Celebrities scheduled to be on hand at the event include, Actor Chris Tucker and TV personality Steve Harvey. Both will serve as co-emcees of the event. Special invited speakes will include former NFL star Marcus Allen and singer Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish.

When asked about his personal feeling on the celebration, Elder, age 80, is reported to have replied in a very humble voice, “The one thing that I’m really happy about is that these guys want to do this. I really appreciate it.”

For the record, this claim made by Choupique is erroneous and made out of ignorance:

You’ll find that the Woke tend to be lazy when it comes to factualness. Their emotionalism doesn’t care about truth, accuracy, fairness, or any of that. It just wants to create racists that it can self-righteously condemn and in that prove their betterness and superiority.

You have completely misinterpreted what I have said in this thread.

I stated that Augusta National is putting on this show in 2021 to fit in with the crowd.

I have made comments about Gary Player showing that he had been standing with and fighting for Lee Elder since the early 1970s. Mingo was is Name O is the poster calling Player an a-hole, not me. I was the one who brought up the article showing that Player was honoring Lee Elder back in 2015, at a time when no one had ever heard the name George Floyd.

These things are not mutually exclusive. Player can be fully in support of black golfers and Mr. Elder and still be a piece of shite. He's a notorious cheater and definitely had his son peddling golf balls over Elder's shoulder yesterday.

Has anything Gary Player said and/or done impacted the life of anyone posting in this thread?

I know people in augusta that were impacted by his jackass son running around town writing fake checks

I have heard plenty of anecdotal stories about Player the father being a jackass. I have heard plenty of personal stories about his idiot son.

I'm guessing 99% of those twitter idiots don't watch golf or knew who Gary Player was before this.

Years ago I was playing in a Nike tour event and got paired with Wayne. On one hole he hit a shot and this kid in the gallery yelled "get up". Player turned to him and yelled at the top of his lungs "don't talk to the ball; the ball doesn't have ears". One of my not so good pairings.

Gary was known as a real family man but one day he and Trevino did an exhibition in about 1978 at Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee. My friend Jim Jamieson was the Golf Director there. Trevino had rented a plane for him and Player to go to the Masters and as soon as the plane was in the air Trevino went up front to sit with the pilot, leaving Player to sit in the back. A hooker came out of the luggage compartment and she and Player got it on in the floor. The plane had to circle the airport til he blew his load.

I saw a replay of the opening ceremonies during todays telecast on CBS. I saw Wayne Player holding up a sleeve of balls but I didn't see anything that I would interpret as peddling.

Apparently his son has been banned from the Masters. And if you dont think he was doing this on purpose then you are dumb. Marc Players twitter is interesting. LINK

Also I remember at that course opening in Missouri maybe Payne Stewarts or something? I cant exactly remember. Anyways Gary went on this long tangent about saving trees etc etc. It was so out of tune.
