E-Tec Motor Troubles

Got a 150 hp E-tec with a little acceleration problem. Boat cranks up and idles fine forward and reverse at 600 rpm, but when I try to accelerate nothing happens. Kind of like the motor wont send fuel to increase RPM. I took out the boat today and immediately noticed I could only attain idle speed.
Sat at a fishing spot for ten minutes in neutral motor on and randomly motor sounded different. I was then able to get on plane all the way to WOT. Got off plane, killed it then cranked back up, and back to same issue.
I have checked the throttle cables and the shifter. Both of these work fine. Fuel filters also relatively new I do not believe it to be a fuel related issue but rather an issue with the throttle position sensor(TPS). Does anybody have any insight as to why the motor idles fine but cannot accelerate?
Could this be a fuel pump issue? Also if anyone has a good Evinrude mechanic they recommend I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.

Carbs or fuel injectors?
Bogging down on throddle usually means carbs.
Not to insult you but did you pump the bulb?

He said E-Tec...direct fuel injection
To the op, maybe a fuel pump? I don't have much experience with E-Tec other than seeing my neighbor have some major issues with his

an issue with the throttle position sensor(TPS).
Easy to tell. If it revs every time in neutral but not under load than its a power issue. If it won't rev no matter what, throttle signal issue. If it has a cable throttle, make sure all that stuff is good all the way back to the throttle arm on the engine. Look for loose wires bad connections etc.
Unfortunately you'll need to have a computer hooked to it and see if it has any codes. If its a bad TPS that's a pretty easy fix. If its something else, $$$$. I wouldn't run it much without identifying the problem. If its in limp mode due to an oil delivery issue or something like that you may damage it.
Dennis at boat stuf marine in hammond is an etech guru. Whatever it is, he can fix it and it will be right.

be willing to bet its an injector. Common problem.

My engine did that me Monday. Ended up my vent was closed on my gas tank. Opened the vent and it ran like a scaled Ape.

I have a 2006 90 E-tec. We had a similar issue, it was the oil pump if I recall. The motor went into a "safe" mode of sorts and we could only idle. Got it fixed at Bayou Outboards; it wasn't cheap.

Thank you all for the responses.
a friend of mine called and told me to unplug the TPS and plug it back in. Runs like a charm now. Just happened to be a finicky connection so we think. Going to run it this afternoon will report back if this doesn't work.

Took the boat out this afternoon and it ran better than i can ever remember it running.
I have a 1993 Mercury 25 that runs like a top. Very little maintenance and that thing scoots! Shame they don't make them like that anymore.

More like give it away, plenty used boats with etecs are on the market with zero interest in them because of etec.
Etec is the Pontiac of the motor word now.

If the problem does happen to come back, I would keep what Downshift said in mind. He has a very good point.

I've had the same sort of issue twice. Was a broken reed valve both times. May or may not be your issue but
something to look into.

I got a 1996 Yamaha C85 that runs like new. Also have a 2008 Vmax 150 carb motor that runs like new. The old yamaha 2 stroke carbureted motors are unstoppable with simple maintenance and a little care. Yeah, they burn a little more gas and puff out some smoke but I can fix them with a flat head screw driver and a 10mm wrench
The new tech is sexy until it comes time to repair it

I did check the reeds and they were all intact. I thought this as well at first because of an old motor I had to rebuild.
One thing with bad reeds ive noticed is the motor will sputter and gas will spit out the throttle body. Good thinking though friend
