Does anyone know what happened to the golf course. Any plans to work on it or are they going to close it down? Right now it's just a place to hit balls. Something needs to be done.

How about training grounds for LSU’s new golf course management program. That, or the general populous can crowd source tools and resources and maintain it themselves

TAF should buy it.

LSU has had a Turf & Landscape Management program for as long as I can remember. A lot of those students work on other local courses

Greens are in the worst shape I have ever played on.

16 & 18 are puttable. The rest are complete shite.

They want it in the worst way. If they get it, they will close it and turn it into a parking lot for football games.

They were going to build something a few years back so Mike retired as the head pro. Then the plans fell through and with Mike retired, he could not go back. So they kept it a golf course without a pro. They got rid of most of the infrastructure that helped keep the course nice under Mike. The only reason there is course there now is because I do not think they want it to turn into an eyesore.

I'm surprised it's still open.

Mike Johnson has always been the best PGA golf professional and poured his heart and soul into the golf course and for all the Tiger faith-full his entire career.

Lsu should have a turf management program as an ag school. I played the Rawls at Texas tech and it was phenomenal. Apparently we just can’t get our shite together

Does Texas Tech's course have to compete against a BREC like competitor that puts out an endless supply of cheap golf?

its a disgrace that our states flagship university golf course is so dog shite. I have also played the RAWLS course at Texas Tech and was very impressed.... I mean its grass and dirt. How hard can it be?

You know Tom Doak built that course right? You’re comparing a master designed golf course to a patch of grass with 18 holes cut in it.

I get U Club being “private” but I find it hard to believe the university will put any money into a public facility with UC being right down the street. Plus all the faculty making over 6 figures live out there, sad reality nothing will happen.

They should let the school design an 18 hole layout, development plan, and a budget for it. See what shakes out considering the landscape school is right next door.

Last year they were gonna close it and build parking. So they gave up on it. Now they are gonna keep it open and it's gonna take some time to get it back to a playable course

My money is on TAF not wanting to shell out the annual golf fee for every student.

But in all seriousness, the master LSU plan has zero parking on campus for "green spaces." They're planning on forcing all parking to Gourier and River Road and will have a bussing system. LSU Golf Course could be converted into parking on LSU's dime as opposed to TAF.
