Honest question about the Mississippi St. game last season

After that first defensive 3 and out that ended with a sack, who was excited for the season? I remember screaming “fricking right Pelini!” After seeing Jacoby Stevens sack Costello for -8 yards. Then I proceeded to watch Costello throw for a record 623 yards leading me to believe Mike Leach was about to take over the SEC. It’s funny to think about it now.

I honestly thought our defense was going to be pretty good then that game happened.

I sacked your mom for -8 yards

I’ve gone over this play at least 20 times in my head after the season. I just remember feeling like we finally beat the rebuild.

With 9 mins left in the 2nd qtr, we had just picked off Costello to go up 7-3. 5 defensive possessions in, and I thought we were going to be the 84 bears that season.
Amazing how fing sideways it went right after, and the rest of the year.

Yeah. It’s really not.

Agree until you realized they were all just zero blitzes and pellini couldn’t adjust to shallow drags

I thought we were going to have a rough season after all the opt outs and attrition especially at the db positions that game. Leach took great advantage of the fact we were just thin there and down to the Nichols corner who he isolated early in the game.

I specifically remember many posts on the board saying welcome back bo after that 1st play on d.
I cant imagine that theres ever been a faster shift from love to hate on a coaching hire then bo pelini, after that play ,in the history of sports.
Love lasted till the pick six by cox and it never shifted back to anything close to indifference even, after that play by cox

I knew we were in deep shite when they lined up in man after coming out for the 2nd half.
I remember thinking, omg he doesnt have zone installed well enough to play it.
I'm not trying to sound like a know it all football guy,im just telling yall,I really did know and felt it deep in my heart that we had a problem. I'm not the only one ,I'm sure.
I did try to rationalize with the covid situation
Probably did on here as well, but deep down I knew we were so fricked when we had to stay in man because, ZONE WASNT READY TO GO

I'm glad that I was vindicated with my assumption that Myles was just gonna need a half or so to get it together .
The board was freaking out about Myles holding the ball too long ,he was gun shy,but boy did he put it together quick.
After the 1st half I was worried but really hoped and thought it was gonna be better from then on out. He exceeded my expectations after that 1st half though. It was shocking in the 1st though because we thought we would be fine with him. We were till injury.

I got so drunk before the game I literally don’t remember a single play from the game. Still haven’t watched the highlights.

Leach has done the same stuff at all his prior stops. There should be no surprises, our coaches sucked that game. Early on, I knew we were hosed. When O now says he’s he can coach our D, and he didn’t override Bo, I have serious doubts.

I wasn’t worried about the latter because the tape on how to slow them down was out there. It was like they watched film of Stanford instead of Leach. I was disappointed it took the offense a while to get going. I knew from that first half on it was gonna be tough trying to run the ball. One of our best rushing performances turned out to be vs bama

The fact that it was a home game and I wasn't in attendance probably shows my enthusiasm.
Last year sucked, but if we are good again in 2021, it really doesn't mean much. It was a bullshite season.

Didn’t surprise me in the least. I warned about Pelini the day he was hired and got shredded for it but the facts are the facts. He hasn’t fielded a competitive defense in a decade and over the course of his career the overwhelming majority of his defenses have been terrible. Of course nobody wanted to look at the data, instead they got excited over nostalgia when he had a couple of great Ds here with Sabans personnel.

But but but Brennan was lighting it up. Complete garbage time yards and against terrible teams.
That’s why this competition is far from over and he is far from being the ear choice as a starter.
Pile up meaningless yards against terrible teams and go 1-2.
