EXCLUSIVE: In the first big casting to Rian Johnson’s upcoming sequel to Knives Out, Sources tell Deadline Dave Bautista is set to join Daniel Craig in the next installment, which Netflix recently landed the rights too in a monumental deal. Deadline first reported in March that Netflix was closing a deal north of $400 million for the next two installments, a historic deal for streamers. Johnson is back to write and direct the pic and will produce with his partner Ram Bergman with Craig reprising the role of super sleuth Benoit Blanc.

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is closing in on a deal to make two sequels to the 2019 hit whodunit Knives Out, which Rian Johnson will direct with Daniel Craig reprising his role as super sleuth Benoit Blanc. Johnson, who wrote the original, has written the sequels and is producing with partner Ram Bergman. Sources said the deal will be worth north of $400 million, making it one of the biggest streamer movie deals in history.
A sequel was expected, but the recent discreet auction that went on between three streamers — Apple and Amazon were the others — was a surprise. How was it possible? The original was acquired in a single picture deal by MRC, which distributed the film through Lionsgate. The first film cost $40 million and turned in a global gross north of $311 million. Owned and licensed by Johnson and Bergman on a picture by picture basis, Johnson and Bergman had the right to make the richest sequel deal they could. It gives Netflix a bonafide event film franchise for its slate. The first picture will begin shooting June 28 in Greece, and casting will begin immediately.

Sounds shitty
Knives Out was a fun and well made flick, and I’m looking forward to the sequels.

It’s kind of funny studio comedies are completely dead but we now have two separate big budget “whodunit” universes going on
I give it like 6 months before they announce the Clue reboot

Deals like this make me feel like I'm wasting money on Netflix. This definitely isn't content that interests me.

Yeah, there are no notable or successful examples of writers reusing a central detective/investigative character across numerous stand alone mysteries.
Not a single one...

Studios are basically shutting themselves to create franchises rather than mostly original movies.

That’s been the case for atleast 15 years now
Atleast this was an original script that’s getting a franchise push
ETA and a universe that won’t require hundreds of millions in CGI work

Its about to go down the toilet in this next phase. No one can carry quite like the avengers. Not only that they are hiring base on political leaning and not the right person for the job.
Wandavision directors and story writer had no idea who Mephisto is.
The Falcon and Winter Soldier director and writer make Avengers unpaid heroes when it is a sticking point that Avengers DO get paid and everyone receive a pay check.
Peter Parker who choose to hide his identity was the only Avenger that wasn't receiving pay even though he was doing everything an Avenger were doing.
Falcon is an on the record solider and would have not only gotten good pay but also back pay. Tony would not have left any of his people in such a lurch knowing he was about to bring them back.
The whole Endgame time travel was game plan out and not done on the fly. His people livelihood would not have been neglected that's for sure.

No one sees the original movies! Even the good ones are passed over in favor of tent poles. Don’t blame studios, blame consumers.

They don’t care about quality, only quantity. And they have the stupidest screen limits policy. Disney Plus is less than half the price and you can be on up to 10 devices watching content at once. Netflix’s max is 4 and by that point you’re paying nearly 3 times as much as Disney plus.
