Anyone experience weight gain after quitting tobacco?

I read that this is pretty common. Just wanting some possible tips or advice on this. About a month or 5 weeks quitting dipping. Bowel movements aren't nearly as often (sometimes I won't go all day) and I've put on 5-8ish lbs pretty quickly. I don't feel like I've been eating more than usual. Have been doing nicotine(tobacco free) pouches and the gum. I still run 6 days a week (30-40ish miles) and get pretty decent sleep. What gives ?

Cigarettes have no magical properties. They are an appetite suppressant though and you are very likely eating more.

People only gain an average of 5 lbs when quitting. The weight gain is due to increase in calories consumed. I’m not sure why you would you gained 6-8 pounds as active as you are unless you are eating more junk food or retaining water for some reason. Regardless, gaining 20 lbs would still be healthier than using tobacco.

Probably boredom snacking of some kind. Dipping was always an appetite suppressant for me. Keep up the good work. You'll turn the corner soon

Thanks guys. I have to just be eating more even though it doesn't seem like it. I'm 6'0 weighing in around 187-190 when I'm usually in the 180-184 range. I certainly miss my glorious morning dump after my coffee and dip that was pretty much automatic. I guess anything is better than possibly getting a chunk of my face cut off if I get mouth cancer or something. I've been on the gum and pouches like a mad man to try and prevent the overeating and fight off cravings . I'm gonna just really have to buckle down and be mindful of what and how much I'm eating.

Make sure you are getting enough fiber and staying hydrated.

Yeah. It takes a while to fully adjust. I quit smoking about 10 years ago. Finding new ways to cope with boredom and stress took a while. I started exercising around that time and eventually running. It took a good 3 months before I finally felt like I was completely comfortable not smoking. You’ll get there.

I remember those well, cigarettes and coffee. I didn't know what constipation was until I quit smoking. Hopefully I make it to Heaven, if I do, I wanna be talking to God with a pack of cigarettes and cup of coffee at the table. I'm sort of joking, but not really. Quit close to 10 years ago.

What did you do ?

People replace tobacco with junk food. Tobacco in and of itself don’t make you fat or skinny.

I quit chewing last year and one thing I noticed was that I missed the oral fixation (no homo), so I ate more than normal. It took a bit to stop doing that.
Also, that three day hump theory is a myth. I've gone almost a year without it and there are certain times where I really, really want one.

Quit smoking (again) about 2 weeks ago with patches. I have really tried to consciously make sure I wasn't eating more, but I don't really know how I'm doing. Trying to drink sugar free drinks to balance it out. Haven't weighed myself though, won't do that until I'm completely done with patches. It's a good thing to stay aware of so you don't let it get out of hand, but realize it's not a sprint. If you have the conviction to quit, a few extra pounds won't be anything to get rid of.

I quit smoking 2 years ago with the help of nicotene losanges. I finally decided to cut them out completely a few months ago and started eating constantly throughout the day. I now keep some around just for when I have the munchies. It’s still a vice but I figure it’s a much better alternative than smoking and eating junk.

Yes. It is very common to gain weight after quitting. Don't beat yourself up over it, because you took a giant step in the right direction bro.

This is the attitude to really have. If you’re worried about weight gain, start exercising. I highly recommend strength training, but anything that’s a good habit will help.

I run 30-50+ miles a week already. Starting to incorporate weights a little more. I hope this summer heat with the running will melt most of it off. Just really gonna have to be mindful of my diet now.

You would be better off doing less running and lifting more.
