Shreveville has been a mess as long as I can remember, but a 600-fold increase in an already high crime level is shocking.
Couple that with its propensity to severe thunderstorms and the crippling cold wave last month, and I can't understand how people can live there.

Shreveport was a shithole in the 80's and 90's and just gets progressively worse. You cannot drive from one neighborhood to another without going into a neighborhood where you'd be scared for your car to break down.
In the late 80's/early 90's it was the "drive-by capital of the US" per capita. Gang activity was steadily increasing. Increased poverty and everyone with any money at all fleeing to Southern Trace, Bossier, or leaving completely.
The city is trash and isn't coming back.

Yep, it's done. Actually started moving toward shithole status in the early 70's. Most of my family was from there originally...all are gone now but a couple of cousins.
They are in law enforcement so the job prospects are always good. :)

Oh man just wait until you hear that some of largest changes in murder rates are happening in republican cities but y'all don't want to talk about that. It's almost as if political leaning has no real correlation to crime and it's more of a factor of low income and population density. If conservatives magically win in these cities y'all could just go exacerbate the income inequality and take credit for the ensuing skyrocketing of crime

Shreveport was dominated by conservative leadership and very low crime rates until the 1980s. By the 1990s the great exodus of families to cross the river to Bossier Parish started and is going strong.
Shreveport cannot reach it's governmental tentacles into Bossier because they are different parishes.
They attempted to sell 'Municipal Govt' to share taxes with Bossier and Bossier said 'frick off.'
The weather in Shreveport/Bossier is much nicer than south La. where I grew up. Avg. temp in summer is 5 degrees cooler on any given day and much lower humidity.
In winter we get snow once every 3 years. Much nicer than once every 40 years like in New Iberia.

That's bullshite, can drive from Ellerbe to Downtown (and I do all the time) and not drive through any neighborhood. You proved my point about anyone with any money at all going to Southern Trace, or at least the surrounding area. But one quick skip and you're in Cedar Grove. Downtown's no walk in the park and continues to get worse. But glad you enjoy the town. I always thought and continue to think it sucks and couldn't be paid to move back.
