I'm assuming you mean just in the city-that don't have limited menus(pisses me off more than masks at restaurants...COVID isn't killing redfish):

Ostia is the best restaurant I've been to since the Kung Flu made it to our shores.

Shun for sushi.

Georgia James for steak.

Eunice for Gulf Coast.

Bludorn is a hard to snag/hottest res in town currently...honestly I'd rather Ostia.

Ah man. I didn't think of this. Just booked a bunch of spots for next month. Their websites looked normal, so fingers crossed.

I was in Houston a couple weeks ago for a few days. The closest place to the center I ate was near the Galleria for lunch. It was a New York style deli called Kenny and Ziggy's. I had an open faced reuben sandwich and it was excellent.

Things aren't likely to change even though anyone can get a shot come Monday in Texas who wants it, but where did you book?

Uchi
State of Grace
Georgia James
Tony’s

Been to Uchi and Georgia James but just want to go back. State of Grace will be a lunch. Tony’s, I know there’s better/newer food but I’ve never been and always wanted to check it out.

Still have one lunch spot open, ideally casual-ish. Maybe Heights area.

Staying in an apartment right next to Hay Merchant. Did Nancy’s Hustle last trip and loved it, but want to add another never-been spot to the list.

Not downtown, but not far from it at all, Street Market Thai Food is fantastic. You won’t be disappointed.

They could definitely use some business. Many employers in those Greenway office buildings still have their employees on Work from Home, so Tony’s isn’t getting their usual weekday lunch crowds.

I don't think I've been to Tony's in a decade+.

Ostia(Montrose) does lunch on the weekends, Rosie Cannonball(Montrose), La Lucha(Heights), Pinkerton's(Heights)

Take an Uber and check out either Original Ninfas or El Tiempo Cantina, they are next door to each other.
You can also check out some quality BBQ places that are close to downtown as well. Truth BBQ, The Pit Room or Pinkerton’s BBQ are all relatively close to Downtown. Plenty of places in EaDo as well. Nancy’s Hustle for instance.

I really just want Tony’s for the atmosphere and all. Still not worth it? I’ve always wanted to go.

Looking at this Nobies. I could have sworn I went to a place called Nobies in Houston way out in the middle of nowhere and it was like this casual trendy-ish Asian fusion place. This doesn’t look like that.

Edit - Damn.. Ostia for lunch and Nobie’s for dinner, scratching Tony’s, is tempting.

Sorry OP. Lol. Hopefully this is helping you too.

Tony’s is good don’t get me wrong but Nobie’s is my shite.

Nobie’s is more along the lines of Nancy’s hustle in terms of vibe. I personally like it better but that’s just me.

If you mean truly in downtown:

Irma's is a classic tex-mex joint thats been around for decades. Sit in the original building in the back and let them order for you.

Xochi is traditional mainland mexican, and if you can get over it being in a hotel the food is fantastic.

Just outside of downtown in EaDo:
Huynh is great vietnamese with the best Shaken Chicken (Ga Luc Lac) I've ever had.

Nancy's Hustle is further in to EaDo a top 5 restaurant in Houston. Its the "New American" style restaurant with a variety of food influences and primarily shareable plates. Great vibes and cocktails

And finally, back to downtown specific, if someone ever tells you to eat at Birraporetti punch them in the face immediately. Without question the worst restaurant ive ever been forced to attend. I refused to eat.

Like the bad golfer said. Can add the Brisket House and Roegels to list of candidates.

Houston has some amazing BBQ joints.
